Roane County (Tennessee) Register of Deeds: Military Discharges Recorded and Kept Private

The Roane County Register of Deeds, Sharon Brackett, at the courthouse, 200 East Race Street, Suite 6, Kingston (865-376-4673), records military discharges, and its page notes that all records are public 'with the exception of Military Discharges', the privacy the Tennessee Code gives a recorded DD-214.

Tennessee registers of deeds record a DD-214 free of charge, and a recorded discharge is confidential for seventy-five years under Tennessee Code 10-7-513; see the Tennessee entry on military discharge recording. The Roane County Register of Deeds' page lists "Military Discharges" among the documents the office records, and states: "All records in the Register's office are public record with the exception of Military Discharges although the records must remain in the office at all times."
