Education & Employment

A filter hides a benefit only when that benefit has a rating gate and the rating you set misses it. A benefit with no rating gate stays on the list. Who it is for means who can receive the benefit in their own right; a survivor is the family of a veteran or service member who died, and a child of one is listed under both. This is not an eligibility decision.

At least 40% service-connected. The living-veteran disability path is a service-connected rating of 40% or more. A former prisoner of war, a missing-in-action determination, or a death from service or on active duty can qualify a dependent with no rating. The rating filter only tests the 40% path.

Alabama State Classified Service Veteran Preference

Education & EmploymentAlabama · State

Five extra points on a state classified-service exam for an honorably discharged veteran. Ten points when a service-connected disability pays compensation, pension, or a disability allowance.

Ten-point preference. Ten points require a present service-connected disability that entitles the veteran to pension, compensation, or a disability allowance. Five points are available to an honorably discharged veteran with no rating floor. The five-point path is why a rating filter does not hide this entry.

Any service-connected disability reaches the ten-point category. Code 7.0202(a) defines a disabled veteran as one who has established the present existence of a service-connected disability, or who receives compensation, disability retirement benefits, or a pension from VA or a military department. A zero percent rating establishes that. There is no percentage floor, so a rating filter never hides this benefit.

No rating, era, or discharge characterization test appears in the section.
