For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Baltimore City Department of Human Resources gives preference points on certain job openings to veterans, as it does to city residents and to applicants with certain disabilities. The department's conditions for the veterans preference are an honorable discharge from the U.S. armed forces, at least 90 consecutive days of active duty, and at least one year of Maryland residence before applying. Reservists and National Guard members do not qualify, so a Guard or reserve member without 90 consecutive days of federal active duty gets no points. A veteran within ten years of service has to submit the DD-214 with the application. Documents have to be in before the job posting closes; the department does not accept late ones. The department's page does not state the number of points, and it does not describe a larger preference for a disabled veteran. Ask the recruiter for the job before relying on a figure. These are city rules; the state's 10-point selection credit does not apply to city jobs.
