Collier County Code section 126-120 still prints the repealed rule: a disabled wartime veteran, $50, receipt marked "Veterans Exempt Receipt". Since 2018 section 205.055 exempts any honorably discharged veteran, a spouse or unremarried surviving spouse, and a PCS military spouse in full. The Tax Collector's site could not be read to record its counter practice.
Honorable discharge, or a listed spouse. Under the statute: an honorably discharged veteran, a spouse or unremarried surviving spouse, or a PCS military spouse. No rating is needed.
Collier County's Human Resources division publishes Florida's veterans preference in full: claim it on the application with form VP-1 or a letter, attach the documents for each section 295.07 category, and, if no hiring decision has come, contact the county between 45 and 90 days to preserve the right to complain to the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
Section 295.07 categories, honorable discharge. Any of the section 295.07 categories, documented at application. The rating matters only for priority among eligibles.
Tuition plus room and board for dependents of prisoners of war, those missing in action, and Guard members killed or permanently disabled on state duty. It does not reach the child of a veteran with a federal disability rating, which is the usual misreading.
A qualifying event, not a rating. Eligibility flows from the parent being a prisoner of war or missing in action, or a Colorado National Guard member killed or permanently disabled on state active duty or authorized training duty, along with law enforcement officers and firefighters. A federal VA disability rating on the parent does not qualify a dependent, and the rating filter cannot test any of this.
An honorably discharged veteran who establishes Colorado domicile gets in-state tuition immediately, with the one-year waiting period waived. Institutions must grant it to the veteran and may grant it to a dependent, which is why answers differ by campus.
Discharge and domicile, no rating. The veteran path requires an honorable discharge and establishing Colorado domicile under statute 23-7-103 for any length of time. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
Up to 100% of in-state tuition at 31 designated Colorado public institutions for a Guard member in good standing. Since July 1, 2026 it is a last-dollar waiver applied after all other aid, and it has to be reapplied for every single semester.
Guard membership and good standing. Eligibility rests on current membership in the Colorado Army or Air National Guard in good standing, completion of basic training and any required follow-on training, in-state residency established with the institution, and a semester-by-semester application. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
Five points for a wartime or campaign veteran, ten for a veteran receiving disability compensation, five for a surviving spouse, capped at ten in total. Colorado also requires comparable county and city systems to award the same points.
Receiving disability compensation, any compensable rating. The ten-point preference goes to a veteran receiving compensation for a service-connected disability. Colorado names compensation rather than a percentage, so any compensable rating reaches it, and this entry is gated at 10 percent to reflect the lowest compensable rating rather than a stated floor.
Columbus's personnel code adds five points to the passing score of any honorably discharged veteran and ten to an honorably discharged disabled veteran on an open competitive examination, for initial appointment only, with proof filed by the exam date. That reaches veterans the State's points leave out, since it has no wartime or 10% rule.
Honorably discharged veteran taking a scored exam. Five points for an honorably discharged veteran, ten for a disabled one, on a passing score, for initial appointment only. No rating is needed for the five points.
Tuition is waived at the community colleges, the Connecticut State Universities, and UConn for a wartime veteran domiciled in Connecticut when admitted. The waiver covers tuition only, and it is reduced by any Post-9/11 GI Bill tuition payment.
Wartime service and Connecticut domicile at admission. The gate is veteran status under section 27-103 plus service in time of war, with the veteran domiciled in Connecticut when accepted for admission. Domicile of less than one year counts. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
Five points are added to a passing examination score for a wartime veteran, ten points if that veteran is eligible for VA disability compensation or pension. Campaign medal holders and service members in the final year of an enlistment take five points on their own path.
Wartime service, with a passing examination score. The candidate must have served in time of war under section 27-103 and must already have attained at least the minimum earned rating on the examination. The preference adds points to a passing score rather than creating one.
The Commissioner of Administrative Services may give a price preference of up to 15 percent to a veteran-owned micro business on state purchases. The business needs at least 51 percent veteran ownership and gross revenues of no more than $3,000,000.
At least 51 percent veteran ownership. The business must be at least fifty-one per cent owned by one or more veterans as defined in section 27-103. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
Five percent of the score earned is added to a veteran's passing score on an open county examination, for wartime, expedition or 180 days' continuous active duty with an honorable discharge, or for a disabled veteran. It does not apply to promotional examinations, and there is no extra credit for a disability.
Qualifying service and an honorable discharge, or a disabled veteran. The service route needs wartime, expedition or 180 days of continuous active duty and an honorable discharge. No rating is named for the disabled-veteran route.
A veteran who meets the minimum qualifications for a Cook County career service job and uploads a DD-214 is put on the interview list without the computer randomization other applicants go through. Six months of continuous active duty and any discharge except dishonorable qualifies.
Six months of active duty, not dishonorably discharged. The preference needs six months of continuous active duty and any discharge but dishonorable. No rating is needed.
On recruitments that allow it, County of Maui job applicants claim 5 veteran's preference points with a DD-214, or 10 points with a VA or service statement dated within the past six months, half the twelve months the State asks. Answer the application's veteran's preference question and attach the papers.
5 points: honourable separation with qualifying service. A DD-214 with service in one of the listed periods or campaigns. No rating is needed.
Cross County's Employment Policy (effective January 1, 2022) gives an employee in the National Guard or a reserve component 15 days of paid military leave a year for training, carrying over to 30, and up to 30 working days with pay when called to emergency duty, in addition to regular leave.
Cross County employee in the Guard or a reserve component. Membership and orders; no rating is needed.
DeKalb County's own ordinance adds five points to an honorably discharged wartime veteran's passing score on a county merit system exam, ten points with a 10% VA rating, and five points for the spouse of a veteran who is 100% disabled and cannot work or who has died. It reaches Guard and reserve members who served on active duty in any war since Desert Storm. The preference covers entry only, and appointment stays discretionary.
Honorably discharged wartime veteran, or a spouse. Five points need 180 days of active duty with wartime service and an honorable discharge. Ten points add a 10% VA rating. Spouse points need a 100% disabled or deceased veteran. The filter does not hide this benefit.
DeSoto County repealed its local business tax by Ordinance 2016-19, effective September 30, 2017, and the Tax Collector publishes no business tax service, so a veteran opening a business in unincorporated DeSoto County owes the county no business tax and needs no exemption. A city that levies one, such as Arcadia, applies section 205.055.
No county business tax; statute applies where a city levies one. DeSoto County levies no local business tax, so no veteran exemption is needed at the county level. Any city tax follows section 205.055: honorable discharge, or a listed spouse.
A state high school diploma, including after death, for a veteran of World War II, Korea or Vietnam who left a Delaware school to serve, did not graduate or took a GED instead, and was discharged under honorable conditions.

The spouse and children of an active duty member who is transferred out of Delaware keep in-state tuition at Delaware public colleges for as long as they stay enrolled. Delaware has no statute of its own giving veterans in-state tuition; that comes from federal law.
Active duty member reassigned out of Delaware immediately after a Delaware assignment. 14 Del. C. § 3466. Only for a spouse or child who remains enrolled.
Tuition and fees up to the in-state rate at a Delaware public college, or the equivalent at a Delaware private one, for a member of the Delaware National Guard who agrees to six years of service, for one certificate and one degree at each level through a master’s. Since July 1, 2026 the Guard pays the school directly instead of reimbursing you.
Current Delaware National Guard members only. 14 Del. C. § 3480(a): an active member of a federally recognized unit meeting satisfactory membership.
Boards under the Division of Professional Regulation must credit substantially equivalent military training, keep a deployed member’s licence alive until 180 or 270 days after return, reinstate a lapsed licence for a member or spouse within two years, and issue a six-month provisional licence to a member or spouse while an endorsement is pending.
On military orders, federal law treats the existing licence as valid. 50 U.S.C. § 4025a, as amended by Pub. L. 118-159: a service member or spouse who relocates on military orders with a licence in good standing may practise within its scope on application, with a temporary licence if the board needs more than 30 days. Veterans and retirees rely on 29 Del. C. § 8735 instead.
Military status is a protected class in Delaware, like race or sex, in private and public employment, housing, public accommodations and insurance. It covers veterans as the federal law defines them, current members of the uniformed forces and reserves, and dependents of servicemembers.

Initial appointment in the state merit system only. 29 Del. C. § 5935(b)(1): not promotion and not retention in a reduction in force.
The employer tax credit of 10 percent of wages up to $1,500 for hiring an Iraq or Afghanistan veteran still appears on the state veterans agency’s benefits page, but by statute it reaches only veterans first hired from 2012 through 2015. No employer can claim it for a hire made today.
Only for hires from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2015. 30 Del. C. § 20A-101(4)b.
Denver's Career Service gives job applicants the Colorado constitution's veterans' preference points and credits up to ten years of wartime or campaign service against layoff. Its rules still give employees three weeks of paid military leave a year, where House Bill 26-1413 has required four since July 1, 2026.
Applicants and Career Service employees. Five points for wartime or campaign service, ten with a compensable service-connected disability; leave for anyone serving. The rating filter cannot test the service paths.
On City construction contracts of $10 million or more, Denver requires contractors to fill 15% to 20% of construction hours with workers in target categories, and any veteran, with any length of service, is one. A veteran looking for construction work on airport and infrastructure projects can ask contractors and the programme to be counted.

Education and training help for a spouse or child of a veteran who is permanently and totally disabled from a service-connected disability, or who died in service or from a service-connected disability.
Sponsor status. One path is a veteran rated permanently and totally disabled from a service-connected disability. Death in the line of duty and death from a service-connected disability are other paths.
Chapter 35 can be used at a Philippine school, and not only for a college degree, but VA pays it there at fifty cents per dollar. Children of Commonwealth Army veterans and New Philippine Scouts are eligible at the same half rate.
Sponsor status. Chapter 35 follows a sponsor who is permanently and totally disabled from a service-connected disability, died in the line of duty, or died of a service-connected disability. P&T is not the only path.
Five points on District government hiring registers for a veteran with 180 days of wartime service, and ten for a disabled veteran, but only within five years of discharge unless rated 30 percent or more, and never for a military retiree. Every District resident gets ten points, so residency outweighs veteran status.
More than 180 consecutive days in wartime, honorable or general, within five years of separation. D.C. Code 1-607.03(a), (e), (f); 6-B DCMR 214.2.
A District-based business at least 51 percent owned, operated and controlled by veterans can be certified as a veteran-owned business enterprise and take 2 points on proposals or a 2 percent price reduction on bids for District contracts, stackable with other certified business preferences up to 12.

Durham County bans discrimination for "military status", which covers active duty, reserve and Guard members and veterans whatever the character of discharge, by employers and places of public accommodation, but only outside city and town limits unless a town opts in. Complaints go to the county within 180 days and end in free conciliation; there is no right to sue under it.
Service member, Guard or reserve member, or veteran of any discharge. Any military status, whatever the discharge. The ordinance reaches only areas outside towns that have not opted in.
Up to 9 more months of Post-9/11 GI Bill or Fry benefits, or $30,000, for a student finishing a STEM degree or clinical training who has 6 months or less of entitlement left.

American Samoa Community College must charge GI Bill users the resident rate under 38 U.S.C. 3679(c), with no window after discharge since 2021. There is no territorial veterans tuition waiver, and the territory’s own student aid has no veterans preference.
No rating requirement anywhere in this entry. Section 702 resident tuition, territorial student financial aid, and the federal GI Bill programs all turn on service, enrollment, and residency rather than on a disability percentage. Veteran Readiness and Employment is the one federal program here where a rating matters, and it has its own federal rules.
Since Local Law 3 of 2023, every Erie County department aims for at least six percent of County contracts to go to businesses certified by the State as service-disabled veteran-owned, with the County's Equal Employment Opportunity office doing the outreach.
A business certified by the State as service-disabled veteran-owned. The State certification requires a service-connected disability rating of at least 10 percent; see the State entry.
The Escambia County Tax Collector exempts a business majority owned by an honorably discharged veteran, with fewer than 100 employees, from the county business tax. Its page and affidavit leave out the veteran's spouse and unremarried surviving spouse, whom section 205.055 also exempts, and omit the statute's permanent change of station condition for a military spouse.
Honorable discharge, or a listed spouse. An honorably discharged veteran, or the spouse or unremarried surviving spouse of one, or an active-duty spouse. No rating is needed.
Escambia County gives Florida's veterans preference in filling its vacancies, but its page excludes "certain exempt positions, such as department directors", which section 295.07 does not exempt, and refuses preference if the DD-214 arrives after a posting closes. A county employee who leaves to serve gets promotion preference on return.
Section 295.07 categories, honorable discharge. Any of the section 295.07 categories, with the DD-214 filed before the posting closes. No rating is needed except for the disabled veteran category.
Preference for an honorably discharged veteran on an initial Fairfax County job, with additional consideration when VA has fixed a service-connected disability.
Service-connected disability. Any honorably discharged veteran who meets the job requirements gets the initial-hire preference. A service-connected rating adds consideration, and it decides a tie between two veterans.
Three ways a federal agency can hire a veteran outside or ahead of normal competition: VEOA for merit promotion jobs, VRA up to GS-11, and noncompetitive appointment for a veteran rated 30% or more.
30% for the disabled veteran authority. The 30% authority needs a compensable service-connected rating of 30% or more; VEOA and VRA have no rating floor.
Five or ten points added to a passing score, or priority in category rating, for a qualifying veteran applying for a federal competitive service job, with ten points for a service-connected disability.
Qualifying service and honorable conditions. A war, campaign, listed period, or a service-connected disability for 10 points.

100% permanent and total. The living-veteran path is a 100% service-connected permanent and total disability. Death from a service-connected disability is a separate path for the spouse or child. One path is a VA rating of 100% that is service-connected, permanent, and total.
Florida public colleges waive out-of-state tuition for an honorably discharged veteran who lives in the state, and waive undergraduate tuition for a Florida recipient of the Purple Heart or a higher combat decoration.
The state and its political subdivisions give preference in hiring and retention to disabled veterans, wartime veterans, and listed family members. A scored exam adds 20, 15, or 10 points after a passing score.
Honorable discharge and a listed preference category. Disabled veterans, wartime veterans, other veterans, current Guard and reserve members, and listed spouses and survivors can qualify. Point values apply only after a passing exam score. A rating is not the only path.
Free tuition at UVI, at UVI CELL, and at any academic or career and technical course run by the Department of Education, for a Virgin Islands Veteran. The veteran still pays the fees, and the Director must approve the waiver.
Virgin Islands Veteran only. The Office of Veterans Affairs limits this benefit to a Virgin Islands Veteran: someone who was a domiciliary of the Virgin Islands and who entered the armed services in the Virgin Islands, or who was a domiciliary but entered in another jurisdiction while temporarily residing there. A veteran who moved to the territory after service does not meet it.
Free tuition at the University of Puerto Rico and every public postsecondary institution for a veteran whose federal benefits are exhausted or who never had any, a fifty percent discount for spouses and children, and a total exemption for the family of a service member killed in the line of duty.
No rating requirement. Article 4B turns on veteran status, exhaustion of federal education benefits, and academic standing. No disability percentage appears in the article.
Five percent of the maximum rating is added to the passing score of a wartime veteran discharged or released under honorable conditions on a competitive county entrance examination. There is no credit on promotional examinations and none extra for a disability.

Veteran who meets the job requirements. No rating test. The veteran must meet all the job requirements, and the preference is an interview on first appointment.
Gadsden County's Personnel Rules (revised February 2, 2010) give veterans and spouses the chapter 295 preference and let a veteran rated 30% or more be appointed on a one-year probation, but they still cap paid reserve and Guard training leave at seventeen working days, where section 115.07 now gives county employees 240 working hours a year.
Veterans, listed spouses, and Reserve and Guard employees. Preference reaches the veterans and family members listed in section 295.07; the special appointment needs a service-connected rating of 30% or more; training leave is for Reserve and Guard members. The filter does not hide the entry on rating.
