Nassau County's Department of Assessment grants the alternative, eligible funds and Cold War exemptions against county and town taxes; the Cold War exemption is at the State's top ceilings and permanent. Local Law 9 of 2026 adopted the full exemption for permanently and totally disabled veterans, though the County's brochure asks for a 100% rating the statute does not. Apply by January 4, 2027 for 2027-28.
Permanent and total, for the full exemption. Real Property Tax Law 458-a(11)(b), adopted by reference: a VA letter stating permanent and total disability from service. The County brochure also asks for a 100% rating. The filter does not hide this entry.
Natick’s assessors give the veterans’ clauses a grant value that “will vary based on qualifications” and post the state’s form and guide, so this entry gives the statute’s: $400 for a veteran rated 10 percent or more, and full exemption under 22D and 22F.
A VA rating, a decoration, or a surviving relative. Clause 22 reaches a veteran rated 10 percent or more, a Purple Heart recipient, a Gold Star parent and the spouse or unmarried surviving spouse; 22A to 22E turn on named losses, decorations, a 100 percent rating or specially adapted housing. The rating filter does not hide this entry, because several routes need no rating.
A direct VA mortgage, from 2.47% fixed for 30 years when read, to buy, build or improve a home on federal trust land for a Native American veteran or a veteran married to a Native American.
Native American veteran on trust land. A Native American veteran, or a veteran married to one, buying on trust land of a tribe with a VA memorandum of understanding.
Naugatuck’s assessor gives the veterans’ exemption on a DD-214 filed with the Town Clerk before September 30 and takes the state additional veterans’ exemption, a biennial application with a financial requirement, between February 1 and October 1.
Wartime service or a VA rating, set by state law. The exemptions rest on C.G.S. 12-81(19) to (26): 90 days of wartime service with a qualifying discharge filed with the town clerk, or a VA disability rating. Amounts above the base turn on rating and income. The rating filter does not hide this entry.
The Navajo County Assessor takes the State's disabled veteran exemption on an affidavit signed in front of its staff by February 28, with a VA letter of the rating, a doctor's Certification of Disability, the 2025 Arizona return and the car registrations; for 2026 it applies the $39,865 income limit ($47,826 with a child at home) and a $36,454 assessed value cap. Late signers need a Board waiver.
Full at a 100% service-connected rating; scaled below it. A 100% service-connected rating fully exempts the primary residence for 2026. A lower service-connected rating, or a nonservice-connected rating, gets $4,873 of assessed value times the rating.
The entire taxable value of the home is exempt, with no income limit and no ceiling on the house value, for a veteran drawing compensation at 100 percent permanent or through individual unemployability.
One hundred percent service-connected permanent disability. Section 77-3506(2)(a)(i) sets the first route. The veteran must be drawing compensation from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs on that basis, so a rating alone without compensation does not carry the exemption.
A wartime veteran totally disabled by something VA did not connect to service can still reach a homestead exemption, but this one is income tested, value capped, and gated on a period list with holes in it.
Wartime service as defined in 80-401.01. A list of named conflicts with gaps: nothing between February 1955 and February 1961, nothing between May 1975 and August 1982, nothing between February 1984 and December 1989, and nothing in the six months before August 2, 1990.
Nebraska is the only state in this catalog that opens its property tax exemption to a temporary 100 percent rating. The price is that this is the one category that must be applied for again every year.
One hundred percent service-connected temporary disability. Section 77-3506(2)(c) asks for compensation from VA because of a one hundred percent service-connected temporary disability. It does not ask for permanence, which no other state property tax provision in this catalog allows.
A mobile home owned and occupied by a service-connected disabled veteran is exempt from property tax outright, at any rating including zero percent. The same veteran in a house would need one hundred percent.
Any service-connected disability, including a zero percent rating. Section 77-202.23(1) adopts 5 U.S.C. 2108, which reaches a veteran who has established the present existence of a service-connected disability or who receives compensation, disability retirement pay or pension through VA or a military department.
A home VA substantially contributed to is exempt for the life of the veteran and of an unmarried surviving spouse, and the exemption follows the proceeds into a replacement home bought within a year.
Paraplegic or multiple amputee, described functionally rather than by rating. Section 77-3526 defines both terms by what the veteran cannot do without aids. No combined rating percentage appears in sections 77-3526 to 77-3528.
Needham’s assessors post no exemption amounts, so this entry gives the statute’s: $400 for a veteran rated 10 percent or more, $750 to $1,500 under 22A to 22C, $1,000 for a 100 percent rating, and full exemption under 22D and 22F.
Nevada County's tax collector, Sheriff Danny Martin ex officio, at the courthouse, 215 E. 2nd St., Prescott (870-887-3511), takes the State's disabled veteran exemption on the home and personal property; the county posts nothing about it, and since Act 876 of 2025 the VA letter is a one-time filing.
100% permanent and total, special monthly compensation, or qualifying survivor. The county collector administers the State exemption under Ark. Code Ann. Section 26-3-306. The disability test is the State test, not a county one.
The Nevada County Assessor states the full test (100% rated or paid at 100% for unemployability, blind, or without the use of two limbs) and posts a notice on Senate Bill 296's new exemption from the 2027 lien date, promising mailed instructions to current recipients at the end of December. Claims need a wet signature.
100% or compensated at 100% for unemployability. The State exemption needs a 100% rating, permanent or not, compensation at 100% for unemployability, blindness in both eyes, or loss of the use of two or more limbs.
Three tiers by disability percentage, worth $18,200, $27,300 and $36,400 of assessed value for fiscal year 2026-2027. Nevada totals the percentages of separate service-connected disabilities rather than using the VA combined rating, which can put a veteran in a higher tier than their VA letter suggests.
A permanent service-connected disability of at least 60 percent. NRS 361.091, subsection 2. Below 60 percent there is no exemption under this section. Recorded rather than enforced because Nevada totals the percentages of separate disabilities under subsection 7, so a VA combined rating below 60 may still reach the tier.
An exemption of $3,640 of assessed value for fiscal year 2026-2027, indexed annually from a statutory $2,000. The wartime date list ends in 1996, so a post-9/11 veteran qualifies through the campaign medal route instead, which has no minimum days of service.
90 continuous days of active duty inside one of ten date ranges ending in 1996. NRS 361.090, subsection 1(a). The last listed period ends December 20, 1996, so there is no Afghanistan or Iraq period and a wholly post-9/11 veteran cannot qualify on this route.
New Bedford’s exemptions page prints the veterans’ clauses at a range of $400 to $2,500 off the tax bill with no per-clause breakdown and no acceptance named, so the entry asks the assessors to confirm; the city’s site answers 403 and the page was read through the Internet Archive’s capture of March 22, 2025.
New Britain’s Code § 22-20 gives $10,000 off assessment to a veteran or surviving spouse who qualifies for the state additional exemption under 12-81g and is a registered voter in the city.
New Canaan’s assessor posts a veterans’ exemptions sheet printing the wartime filing terms, the rating-based disabled exemption, the dwelling exemption for 100 percent ratings, and the state additional exemption at twice the regular.
New Castle County’s Assessment Division, 87 Read’s Way, New Castle, (302) 395-5520, takes the disabled veterans school property tax credit applications under 14 Del. C. section 1917, due April 30; the credit is deducted from the county-mailed tax bill.
VA 100% permanent and total (including individual unemployability). The credit needs a VA determination of 100% disability compensation for a service-connected, permanent and total disability based on individual unemployability or a 100% disability rating, plus 3 consecutive years of Delaware domicile.
The same amount as the town’s RSA 72:28 credit, but with the wartime requirement removed, so peacetime service qualifies. Since August 31, 2026 it accepts a general discharge under honorable conditions and an uncharacterized discharge based on a service-connected injury.
90 days of active service in any era, wartime not required. RSA 72:28-b, IV. Training for active duty and state active duty by a National Guard or reserve member both count as service under this paragraph, which is wider than the "training for active duty" language in RSA 72:28, IV(a).
A full exemption from all property taxation on the homestead of a veteran whose house was adapted with a VA SAH or SHA grant, or bought with the proceeds of selling one. Individual unemployability is expressly inside it, because the statute cites the federal regulation by number.
100 percent permanent and total as prescribed in 38 C.F.R. 3.340. RSA 72:36-a, I(a) names the regulation and the caption "total and permanent total ratings and unemployability", so the federal provision covering total ratings governs the test rather than a bare schedular percentage.
A credit of $50 to $500, rising to a $750 ceiling from April 1, 2027, for a Guard or reserve member who served in a combat zone during the tax year. It is the one property tax credit with no April 15 deadline: apply any time during the year you serve.
A Guard or reserve member called to active duty, not the active component. RSA 72:28-c, III limits the credit to a member of the New Hampshire national guard or a reserve component of the United States armed forces, called to active duty.
A $50 credit against the property tax bill everywhere in the state, which a town may raise to as much as $750, and to $1,000 from April 1, 2027 if it votes again. It needs 90 days of wartime service from a list that runs wider than the federal one, and an honorable discharge.
90 days of active service in a listed qualifying war or armed conflict. RSA 72:28, IV(a) and V. Training for active duty by a National Guard or reserve member counts. The post-1975 route requires an armed forces expeditionary medal or a theater of operations service medal, the latter determined by the director of the division of veterans services under RSA 72:29, VII.
A $700 credit statewide once the town has adopted RSA 72:35, which a town may raise to as much as $5,000. The statute gives the applicant a real evidentiary right: the assessors must treat the VA certification as conclusive unless they have specific contrary evidence and let the veteran rebut it.
Total and permanent service-connected disability. RSA 72:35, I. The test is total and permanent service-connected disability rather than a rating percentage, and paragraph III(a) requires certification from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs that the applicant is rated totally and permanently disabled from service connection.
How New Hanover County describes the State's $45,000 disabled veteran homestead exclusion: form AV-9 with the NCDVA-9 by June 1, for an "honorably discharged" veteran with a 100% permanent and total rating or an adapted housing grant. The page contradicts itself on the discharge, leaves out the surviving spouse's service-connected death route, and says VA certifies the AV-9.
Permanent and total service-connected disability. The rating path is VA's certification of a permanent and total service-connected disability, as of January 1. A section 2101 adapted housing grant qualifies instead, and an unremarried surviving spouse qualifies on any of the veteran's routes or a service-connected death; the rating filter cannot test those.
New Haven’s City Additional Veterans Program takes $10,000 or 10 percent of the assessment, whichever is lower, off for a wartime veteran with income up to $46,300 single or $56,500 married in 2026. The state additional exemption runs from $6,000 to $30,000 by rating.
A $250 deduction from the property tax bill each year for an honorably discharged veteran with active service in any era who owns property and is domiciled in New Jersey, and for the unremarried surviving spouse of a veteran or of a service member who died on active duty. Eligibility is fixed on October 1 of the year before.
Honorable discharge from active service, any era. N.J.S.A. 54:4-8.10(d) and (h), 54:4-8.11. Wartime removed by P.L.2019, c.413, operative on voter approval November 3, 2020.
A full exemption from property tax on the home of a veteran whom VA has found totally and permanently disabled from service, by schedule or through unemployability, or who has one of the named catastrophic disabilities, and on the home of the unremarried surviving spouse. Any era of service since 2020.
100 percent schedular rating. N.J.S.A. 54:4-3.30(a): a disability declared "a total or 100 percent permanent disability, and not so evaluated solely because of hospitalization or surgery and recuperation". The named catastrophic conditions rate 100 percent under VA's schedule.
A resident deployed in time of war, or a Guard or reserve member mobilized for federal active duty, can defer property tax bills that fall due during the deployment until 90 days after it ends, with no interest and no tax lien if paid within that window.
Deployed in time of war, or mobilized for federal active duty with the Guard or reserves. N.J.S.A. 54:4-8.25 as amended by P.L.2016, c.63.
Two state-run transitional housing programs for homeless veterans, Veterans Haven North in Glen Gardner and Veterans Haven South in Winslow Township, with counseling, addiction treatment and job training. Residents must be sober and registered with VA health care.
Homeless, sober at admission and registered with VA health care. Veterans Haven South admission criteria.
New Kent’s Commissioner of the Revenue takes the statewide home exemption on one combined application for the real estate and vehicle exemptions, requiring the VA certification and a notarized statement, with a new filing needed only when the residence or the vehicle changes.
100% permanent and total. New Kent applies the statewide exemption to the dwelling and up to one acre. It accepts a disability compensated at the 100% rate. It does not add an income test. One path is a VA rating of 100% that is service-connected, permanent, and total.
New Kent excuses up to $1,600 of the real estate tax of an owner who is 65 or older or permanently and totally disabled, on a sliding scale by income up to $50,000 combined, with net worth to $150,000 excluding the dwelling and up to ten acres, applied for by May 1.
Age 65 or permanently and totally disabled. The owner is 65 or older, or permanently and totally disabled, as of December 31 of the preceding year. A VA rating alone is not the test.
New London’s assessor administers the state veterans’ exemptions, with the additional exemptions filed biennially from February 1 to October 1, 2026, and the dwelling exemption claimed on form D-2 by January 1. Its code carries no veterans’ local option.
From tax year 2026 the share of your home's taxable value exempt from property tax equals your VA disability percentage, after the $10,000 veteran exemption comes off: 30 percent at a 30 percent rating, all of it at 100 percent. It covers the home and up to five acres, and a surviving spouse who stays in the home keeps it. A 2026 act shortened the time to claim it.
Any service-connected rating of 10 percent or more, exempting that percentage. NMSA 1978, § 7-37-5.1(B), as amended by Laws 2025, ch. 10 (HB 47) for 2026 and later tax years. The exemption is the rating times taxable value after the $10,000 veteran exemption; a 0 percent rating exempts nothing.
A home owned and lived in by a veteran rated 100 percent permanent and total is exempt from special benefit assessments, the levies of conservancy districts, public improvement districts and tax increment districts that the ordinary property tax exemptions do not reach. An unremarried surviving spouse keeps it.
100 percent rating. NMSA 1978, § 7-37-5.4(C)(1)(b): "a one hundred percent permanent and total service-connected disability".
Ten thousand dollars off the taxable value of property owned by a resident veteran with 90 days of active duty and an honourable discharge, or by the veteran's unmarried surviving spouse. It rose from $4,000 in 2025 and is indexed to inflation from 2026, though the formula keeps it at $10,000 until 2027 at the earliest.
90 continuous days of active duty and an honourable discharge. NMSA 1978, § 7-37-5(F)-(H). Honourable means anything but dishonorable or a discharge for misconduct; fewer days are allowed where the discharge was for a service-connected disability.
New Milford’s assessor gives the veterans’ exemption on a DD-214 filed with the Town Clerk before October 1, takes the state additional exemption February 1 through October 1, and is recorded by OLR’s survey as offering a $10,000 wartime local option.
New Shoreham’s veterans’ property tax exemptions under R.I. Gen. Laws 44-3-4, with the statutory figures for New Shoreham and the day each was read. Confirm the current amount with the assessor.
Service and discharge set by state law. A veteran of a war, conflict or Cold War service period named in 44-3-4 or 44-3-4.2, honorably discharged, discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, or still serving honorably; or the unmarried widow or widower. No disability rating is needed for the basic exemption, so the rating filter never hides this entry.
Takes 15% off the assessed value of the home of a wartime veteran, another 10% for combat service, and a further slice equal to half the disability rating. The standard ceilings are $12,000, $8,000, and $40,000, but every locality sets its own, and school taxes are only covered where the district opted in.
A rating adds an exemption equal to half its percentage. No rating is required. The wartime and combat parts stand on service alone. A service-connected rating adds assessed value multiplied by one half of the rating, so the benefit grows with the rating rather than switching on at a floor.
New York City grants the alternative veterans exemption at raised ceilings of $48,000, $32,000 and $160,000 scaled by the class ratio, against school taxes too, and on co-op apartments and Gold Star parents' homes. Since Local Law 179 of 2025 the Cold War exemption has no ten-year limit. Apply to Finance by March 15. The City has not adopted the full exemption for permanent and total disability.
A rating adds an exemption equal to half its percentage. No rating is needed for the wartime, combat or Cold War parts. A service-connected rating adds assessed value times half the rating, up to $160,000 times the class ratio.
For service between September 2, 1945 and December 26, 1991 that does not meet a wartime test. The locality picks 10% or 15% of assessed value, capped at $8,000 or $12,000, plus half the disability rating up to $40,000. The base part runs ten years unless the locality made it permanent.
A rating adds an exemption equal to half its percentage. No rating is required. A service-connected rating adds assessed value multiplied by one half of the rating, capped at $40,000, and that portion is not subject to the ten-year limit that applies to the base exemption.
The older exemption, worth up to $7,500 where a home was bought with pension, bonus, insurance, or prisoner of war money. Its far more valuable clause fully exempts the primary residence of a seriously disabled veteran eligible for a VA specially adapted housing grant.
Eligibility for a VA specially adapted housing grant, for the full exemption. The total exemption keys to eligibility for federal pecuniary assistance toward acquiring or adapting a housing unit, which is the Specially Adapted Housing or Special Home Adaptation grant. That is a VA determination about specific severe disabilities, not a rating percentage, so the rating filter cannot test it and never hides this benefit.
From assessment rolls based on taxable status dates on or after October 1, 2026, a county, city, town, village or school district may fully exempt the primary residence of a veteran VA considers permanently and totally disabled because of service, including special district charges. It exists only where that government has adopted it.
VA letter stating permanent and total disability from service. Real Property Tax Law § 458-a(11)(b): "considered by the United States department of veterans affairs to be permanently and totally disabled as a result of military service, as evidenced by a letter, official form, or other document". No percentage is named.
Newbury’s assessors print the statute’s own range on their Qualified Veterans page and post the Commonwealth’s Form 96-4, so this entry gives the statute’s; its Veterans Services are the Eastern Essex District’s, Steve Bohn directing from Ipswich Town Hall, with the monthly hours at the town hall the page records.
Newburyport’s assessor’s page prints no clause amounts and its site answers a Cloudflare challenge, so this entry gives the statute’s, read through the Internet Archive’s captures; its veteran’s services are the Derek Hines / Jordan Shay Veteran’s District’s.
Newington’s 2025 grand list table gives $3,000 off assessment for wartime service, $4,500 to $10,500 for a disability rating, and $4,000 to $20,000 under 12-81g and $10,000 under the local 12-81f option for veterans under its income limits.
Newport News exempts the home and up to one acre of a veteran rated 100% service-connected, permanent, and total, including individual unemployability. The city code starts the exemption on the filing date; the statute starts it on the rating date.
100% permanent and total. Newport News applies the statewide exemption to the home and up to one acre. It accepts individual unemployability paid at the 100% rate. It does not add an income test. One path is a VA rating of 100% that is service-connected, permanent, and total.
Newport News offers a disabled owner under 65 a deferral of real estate tax, not an exemption, with income up to $50,000 and assets up to $200,000. Its exemption program is for owners 65 and older only.
Permanent and total disability. The owner is permanently and totally disabled, or 65. A VA rating alone is not the test.
