Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Newington publishes one table of its exemptions for the 2025 grand list, last updated November 26, 2025. For a veteran it lists the 12-81(19) wartime service exemption of $3,000 off assessment, the 12-81(20) to (26) disability exemptions of $4,500 to $10,500 by rating, the state’s additional low-income exemption under 12-81g of $4,000 to $20,000, and the town’s own low-income exemption under 12-81f of $10,000. The table gives the income limit for the 12-81g exemption as $46,300 single or $56,500 married, and for the 12-81f exemption as $53,800 or $64,000, counting all income except VA disability and pension payments. The 12-81g limit is the state’s, set each year by OPM under 12-81l, not the town’s: $46,300 and $56,500 are the amounts towns print for applications filed in 2026, while OPM’s memo of December 12, 2024 set $45,200 and $55,100 for the 2025 grand list the table is headed with. The 12-81f limit is Newington’s own, $7,500 above the state’s. The table’s footnote gives a 100 percent disabled veteran’s limit as $18,000 single or $21,000 married, which are the subsection (a) limits of 12-81g. OLR’s 2023 survey listed Newington among the towns that offer the subsection (b) option, whose limits are $21,000 and $24,000. Ask the assessor which applies.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
