New London Veterans’ Property Tax Exemptions

New London’s assessor administers the state veterans’ exemptions, with the additional exemptions filed biennially from February 1 to October 1, 2026, and the dwelling exemption claimed on form D-2 by January 1. Its code carries no veterans’ local option.

Also called: property tax, 12-81g, veterans exemption, assessor, New London.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor’s September 15, 2026 notice gives the veterans’ exemption to a Connecticut resident who files an original or certified copy of an honorable discharge, or similar document, with the New London City Clerk by September 30, and prints no amount. Veterans claiming the disability exemption file VA proof of the percentage with the assessor; a disabled veteran aged 65 or older may have the exemption increased to the equivalent of a 100 percent rating on proof of age. Additional veterans’ exemptions are available based on statutory requirements and income limitations, filed biennially between February 1 and October 1, 2026; the notice prints no amounts or income limits. That is the state additional exemption under C.G.S. 12-81g, whose limit is the state’s under 12-81l. A person claiming the exemption under C.G.S. 12-81(83), the permanently and totally disabled veteran with a 100 percent service-connected rating, files the state’s form D-2 yearly by January 1, which the notice says P.A. 25-168 § 235 mandated through an amendment to 12-93. The notice also gives the active-duty serviceman’s exemption of one vehicle per year, the leased-vehicle refunds and the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act affidavit. Chapter 19 of the city’s code carries no veterans’ exemption, and OLR’s 2023 survey recorded New London as offering none of the municipal options but the 12-81h vehicle option.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
