A resident stationed outside the state hunts small game and fishes with no licence and no fee, a nonresident on active duty can buy a three-day waterfowl licence, and a big game licence lost to a deployment is reissued.
Resident, on active duty, stationed outside South Dakota. The fee and licence exemption for small game hunting and fishing requires a South Dakota resident on active duty stationed outside the state, carrying orders and a military identification card. Active duty for training as a reserve or Guard member does not count.

Four routes: a veteran allotment for a total disability deemed a service-connected injury; a VA K Award; having been held as a prisoner of war; or service on active duty, in the reserve or in the National Guard with a VA classification of total disability from a service-connected injury.
