St. Lawrence County Clerk: "Return the Favor" Veteran ID and Discount Card

The St. Lawrence County Clerk, 48 Court Street, Canton (315-379-2237), issues a free photo ID card to honorably discharged veterans who live in the county and have their DD-214 in hand or recorded with the Clerk; participating local businesses give card holders discounts, most of them 10 to 25 percent.

The Clerk's page: "Return the F.A.V.O.R. Veteran Discount Program. Find and Assist Veterans of Record. Identification cards (photo ID) are issued to honorably discharged Veterans at no fee by the St. Lawrence County Clerk." Who. "Veteran must be a resident of St. Lawrence County. Veteran must have their military discharge (DD-214) in hand or recorded in the County Clerk's Office." If you cannot find your discharge, the page sends you to the Veterans Services director (315-386-4754). The discounts. "Participating county merchants agree to honor the card by providing holders with a discount on purchases or services." The Clerk hands out the merchant list with the card and posts it online, by category (accommodations, attractions, automotive, entertainment, restaurants, retail, services and more); examples include 10% at the Frederic Remington Art Museum, 15% on Singer Castle tours and 10 to 25 percent at several Potsdam, Canton, Massena and Ogdensburg motels and inns, each on the merchant's own terms.
