The free annual state park permit takes any level of service-connected disability, which is the widest such test in this catalog, but it has to be re-proved every year. Free hunting and fishing licences need 100 percent; a reduced-fee tier at 50 percent arrives March 1, 2027.
The park permit takes any level of service-connected disability. Section 85.053, subdivision 10: an annual park permit at no charge to any veteran with any level of service-connected disability as determined by VA. Recorded rather than enforced because there is no minimum percentage in the subdivision at all.
A veteran rated 100 percent total and permanent pays no registration tax, plate fees or title fee on up to two vehicles, no motor vehicle sales tax, and no fee for any driver’s licence, endorsement or state ID. The statutory definition names only 100 percent T&P, not unemployability.
A 100 percent total and permanent service-connected rating. Section 171.01, subdivision 51 requires satisfactory evidence from VA or a service retirement board demonstrating a 100 percent total and permanent service-connected disability rating. This one definition controls the registration, title, sales tax and licence fee exemptions together.
Three designations on a driver’s licence or state ID, including an SGU Veteran marking from January 2027, and a plate series that reaches allied foreign service, Laos War service, women veterans and Gold Star families.
A veteran under section 197.447, or a retired or discharged Guard or reserve member. Section 171.07, subdivision 15, paragraph (b), clause (1), evidenced by certified discharge papers showing honorable or general under honorable conditions, or a military retiree, veteran or veteran health identification card.
The $600, $1,200 and $2,000 post-9/11 bonus is still printed in full in section 197.79, but the department has been barred from receiving or accepting new applications since June 30, 2024.
No application may be accepted after June 30, 2024. Section 197.79, subdivision 10: the application period ran from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024 and the department may not receive or accept new applications after that date. The section carries no hardship exception.
Any service-connected disability, at any percentage, exempts a veteran from concealed carry permit and renewal fees. Military handgun training substitutes for the enhanced-carry course and waives the residency requirement.
Any service-connected disability, at any percentage. The fee exemption asks only for a service-connected disability and names no percentage, so a veteran at the lowest compensable rating is exempt on the same terms as one at one hundred percent. A veteran with a service-connected condition rated at zero percent should apply and ask, since the statute does not draw the line by rating.
The Mississippi County Circuit Clerk and Recorder files a veteran's DD-214 for nothing - "There is no charge to have a DD-214 filed with the Mississippi County Circuit Clerk's Office" - keeping a copy and returning the original; Blytheville (870) 762-2332, Osceola (870) 563-6471.
Veteran or family member with a discharge to record. Recording the discharge is free; no rating or service test applies.
Mississippi County's Recorder of Deeds invites local veterans to join Honor Rewards for discounts, promotions and other incentives at participating businesses; veterans sign up free on the county's page at honorrewards.com, which also lists a free passport photo at the county's own passport office.
Local veterans. A veteran with a recorded discharge; no rating is needed.
The Mississippi County Recorder of Deeds, George Bays, Courthouse second floor, 200 N. Main Street, Charleston (573-683-2598), files military discharge records (DD214) and gives copies at no charge, and the fee schedule lists military discharges at no charge; RSMo 59.480 limits copies to the veteran or an authorized party.
Any veteran with a discharge. Recording and copies are free under the State statute; copies go only to the veteran or the people 59.480 names. No rating is needed.
Two motor vehicle plates and one motorcycle tag at one dollar each, for a veteran at 100% permanent service-connected disability or at least 70% nonpermanent. The state veterans agency website omits the 70% path.
At least 70% nonpermanent service-connected disability. A rating of at least seventy percent nonpermanent service-connected disability qualifies. Renewal on this path requires an updated VA benefit summary letter each year.
Mississippi furnishes birth and death certificates, marriage licenses, divorce and adoption decrees, and other records free of charge when needed to establish a VA dependency, disability, or survivor claim.
Records needed to establish a VA dependency, disability, or survivor claim. The fee waiver attaches to the purpose: the record must be needed to establish a claim for dependency, disability, or survivor benefits for a veteran who is a legal resident of Mississippi, or for that veteran's claimants. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
A resident adjudged by VA as having a total service-connected disability needs no hunting or fishing license. There is no exempt license to obtain: the old ones were voided, and you carry proof instead.
Service-connected total disability. The exemption asks for a total service-connected disability adjudged by VA. Mississippi's phrase is "service-connected total disability," not a percentage, and the administering agency reads it as a 100 percent service-connected rating. Nothing in the statute says whether a total rating based on individual unemployability counts, and the state's own pages split on the question, so a veteran paid at 100 percent through unemployability should ask the office in writing rather than assume either answer.
Mississippi taxes no military retired pay, no VA compensation, no Social Security, and no combat zone hazardous duty pay, and excludes the first $15,000 of Guard and reserve pay. The general rate is falling from 4.4% toward 3%.
No rating and no age test on retired pay. The exemption for military retired pay carries no disability rating requirement, no age floor, and no dollar cap, so the rating filter never hides this benefit. Early distributions are not treated as retirement income and may be taxed.
Listed in the state veterans guidebook, but the income ceiling is $900 a year, unchanged for decades. In practice almost no veteran can qualify, and the entry exists so nobody spends time chasing it.
Annual gross income of $900 or less. The exemption requires annual gross income of nine hundred dollars or less. VA compensation, Social Security, or a pension at any level exceeds that, which is why the provision reaches almost no one. This catalog does not test income, so the entry stays visible with the ceiling stated.
A 15% discount off camping and lodging rates for veterans and active service members, excluding holidays and special events. Reduced park fishing and launch permit rates require a VA letter stating 100% service-connected.
Any veteran or active service member, no rating. The fifteen percent camping and lodging discount requires only veteran or active service member status. No disability rating applies, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
A state medal for any honorably discharged Mississippi veteran, wartime or peacetime, including Guard and Reserve. It costs $17, one per veteran, and payment is by check at the Jackson office only.
Mississippi residency now, at entry into service, or at death. The veteran must be a current Mississippi resident, have been a resident on entering military service, or have been a resident at the time of death. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
Missoula County employs no veterans service office; nothing on the county site names a county veteran programme. State claims help runs through the Montana Veteran Services Program office in Missoula, (406) 542-2501, [email protected]. What the county itself pays: $250 veteran burial claims through its Auditor, and a completed CDBG-funded project partially funding transitional housing for veterans experiencing homelessness at the Poverello Center.
State claims help is free to any veteran. The Montana Veteran Services Program assists veterans, spouses and dependents with federal claims at no charge, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
Not available for any service-connected disability. The plate needs either a disability of the kind that would have earned a federal automobile grant, or compensation at the total rate. One set is free; a second set pays full fees.
A disability of the kind that would have earned a federal automobile grant. Section 301.071 asks for a service-connected disability of such a nature that it would have entitled the veteran to be awarded an automobile by the United States Federal Government, which points at the impairments in 38 U.S.C. 3901 and 3902: loss or permanent loss of use of a foot or hand, and prescribed permanent impairment of vision of both eyes.
Every county recorder of deeds in Missouri, and the City of St. Louis recorder, must record a military discharge document free, and may not charge for a certified or uncertified copy or for notarising the request. The images are closed to the public for seventy-five years.
Any veteran or authorized party. Recording is free for any military discharge document. Copies are free for the veteran and any authorized party. No rating is needed.
A veteran at 60 percent or a former prisoner of war may hunt and fish without a permit, but not for deer, turkey, bear or elk, and not trapping. The rules sit in the Wildlife Code rather than the statutes, because the Conservation Commission is a constitutional body.
A service-related disability of 60 percent or greater. The Wildlife Code exemption runs at sixty percent for an honorably discharged veteran, resident or nonresident. The figure is regulatory rather than statutory and can be changed by the Conservation Commission without legislation.
Active duty component pay is fully deductible including the signing bonus, Guard drill and annual training pay reached 100 percent in tax year 2024, and enlistment bonuses were added in 2025. A dual-status technician’s civilian pay is expressly outside all of it.
Active duty component pay is fully deducted, signing bonus included. Section 143.174, for tax years beginning on or after January 1, 2016. The deduction reaches the active duty component of the Armed Forces of the United States, not a reservist on active duty orders, who is covered by section 143.175 instead.
A retiree’s own military retirement is subtracted in full with no cap and no income test, including Guard and state militia service. A surviving spouse’s SBP annuity is not, and is capped at the maximum Social Security benefit available.
Military retired pay for the taxpayer’s own service is fully subtracted. Section 143.121.3(12): one hundred percent of retirement benefits received as a result of the taxpayer’s service in the Armed Forces of the United States, including reserve components, the National Guard of this state and any other military force organised under the laws of this state. No cap, no age test, no income test.
Grants to the families of Missouri Guard and reserve members for expenses caused by a call to active duty, funded largely by a voluntary check-off on the state income tax return rather than by appropriation.
A family of a Missouri Guard or reserve member affected by a call to active duty. Section 41.216 authorises the adjutant general to make grants from the fund, subject to appropriation and on the recommendation of a panel.
Paid military leave for every public employee in the state rose from 120 to 160 hours a federal fiscal year in 2026, state-call duty is unlimited, and Guard members on state active duty for more than thirty days now get Servicemembers Civil Relief Act protection with a private right of action.
Any public employee of the state, a county, a municipality, a school district or other political subdivision. Section 105.270.1 reaches all of them, not only state employees.
One set of any military plate is free of special-plate and personalisation fees, and plates authorised after 2006 carry no count limit. Ten decoration plates and a free placard also give free metered parking and free parking on any public college campus.
One set of any military plate is free of special-plate and personalisation fees. Section 301.3030.1. Additional sets may be charged the ordinary fees.
Eleven separate state-law reliefs for a Missouri resident on qualifying active duty of thirty days or more: insurance, licence renewal, vehicle registration, professional licences across thirty chapters, tax filing, administrative actions, and a stay of any disciplinary proceeding.
A Missouri resident on active duty of thirty days or more. Section 41.950.1: the service must be in a military conflict in which reserve components have been called to active duty under 10 U.S.C. 672(d) or 673b or a subsequent call by the President or Congress, for a period of thirty days or more.
Medallions, medals and certificates for six conflicts, three of them added in 2026. Eligibility reaches a veteran who was a Missouri resident at entry, at discharge or at death, or who simply served in a Missouri Guard unit, and a surviving spouse or eldest living survivor may apply.
Missouri residency at any one of four moments, or none at all. Legal residence now, at entry into military service, at discharge, or at death. Alternatively, service in a unit of the Missouri National Guard qualifies regardless of whether the veteran is or ever was a Missouri resident.
Commission staff may not accept or charge anything of value for helping a veteran, and doing so is a class A misdemeanour. The wider service officer network runs on matching grants from casino money rather than on a statutory officer in every county.
Commission services are free, and charging is a class A misdemeanour. Section 42.027 bars the commission, its members, the executive director and all employees from accepting, receiving or charging any money, article or thing of value for any service rendered to veterans, their dependents or legal representatives.
Any Missouri circuit court, or several together, may set up a veterans treatment court for veterans and current service members charged with a crime who have a substance use or mental health disorder, Guard and Reserve included, with preference for combat service. Each circuit sets its own eligibility rules.
Veteran or current service member charged with a crime. Guard and Reserve included; combat service gets preference. Each court sets further rules. No rating is needed.
