Missoula County Veteran Services and the MVAD Missoula Office

Missoula County employs no veterans service office; nothing on the county site names a county veteran programme. State claims help runs through the Montana Veteran Services Program office in Missoula, (406) 542-2501, [email protected]. What the county itself pays: $250 veteran burial claims through its Auditor, and a completed CDBG-funded project partially funding transitional housing for veterans experiencing homelessness at the Poverello Center.

Also called: veteran services, VSO, MVAD, claims help, Missoula, 10-2-115, accredited.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Section 10-2-115 lets a Montana county establish a veterans' service office and does not require one. Missoula County has not established one: its department listing carries no veterans office, and neither the district court pages nor the community-justice pages name a veteran programme. The practical route for a Missoula County veteran filing a federal claim is the Montana Veteran Services Program, whose Missoula office is listed at (406) 542-2501, [email protected], staffed by nationally accredited Veteran Service Officers who help with compensation and pension claims, appeals, survivor claims and military records requests at no cost. What the county itself pays, from the commissioners' own records. The claims lists carried in the Board of County Commissioners' agenda packets record the county's veteran burial claims: funeral homes' bills of $250.00 each paid through the county Auditor (account 410531), under the interment allowance of 10-2-501 - Garden City Funeral Home and others on the December 4, 2025 and January 29, 2026 claims lists, and Brothers Mortuary and Crematory's "Veteran Burial $250.00" on the August 27, 2026 list. The state ceiling is $500, so Missoula's working of the allowance runs at $250. Housing. The county's Grants and Community Resources ran a Community Development Block Grant housing project partially funding transitional housing for veterans experiencing homelessness at the Poverello Center; its $21,040.41 payment appears on the July 9, 2026 claims list, and the county's August 11, 2026 letter to the Department of Commerce (BCC 2026-183) records the project as complete with closeout expected by the end of October 2026. The county does run the ordinary county functions a veteran touches: the Treasurer collects property tax, and the Clerk and Recorder records documents. Montana's disabled veteran property tax assistance is a Department of Revenue programme under 15-6-311, so there is no county application to write beyond the State entry's description of where to file.
