Also called: Tax Commissioner, Brian Brock, homestead exemption, disabled veteran, $50,000, 48-5-48, 48-5-52.1, 229-336-2010, 5201 US Highway 19 S, mitchellcountygatax.com, qpublic, Camilla, April 1, Camilla, Baconton, Pelham, Sale City.
The county's own amounts. The Tax Commissioner's own Government Window site, mitchellcountygatax.com, carries a General Information page whose Homestead Exemptions section reads: "The Disabled Veterans Homestead Exemption is available to certain disabled veterans in an amount up to $50,000 deducted from the 40% assessed value of the homestead property. This exemption applies to all ad valorem tax levies; however, it is restricted to certain types of very serious disabilities (that are service-connected disabilities) and proof of disability, either from the Veterans Administration or from a private physician in certain circumstances. A similar exemption in the same amount is now available to the un-remarried surviving spouse of a member of the armed forces of the United States who was killed in any war or armed conflict engaged in by the United States. The surviving spouse must furnish appropriate documentation that spousal benefits are received as a result of the death of the armed forces member." The page also prints the route and the deadline: "To receive the benefit of the homestead exemption, the taxpayer must file an initial application. The application is filed with the Mitchell County Tax Assessor's Office ... Georgia law allows for the year-round filing of homestead applications but the application must be received by April 1 of the year for which the exemption is first claimed by the taxpayer", and the county's own layer: "Mitchell County has such local county exemptions. The Local County Exemptions supersede the State Exemptions when the Local Exemption amount is greater than the State Exemption amount."
Where and who. Tax Commissioner Brian Brock, P.O. Box 373, 5201 US Highway 19 S, Camilla, GA 31730; phone (229) 336-2010; [email protected]; "Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm, closed most major holidays." The county's Tax Assessor page seats the Board of Assessors - Scott Taylor (Chairman), Walter Sealy (Vice Chairman), Cartier Whitlock, Bennie Williams and Kizzy Gordon, meeting the first Tuesday of each month at 4:00 p.m. in the Commissioner's Meeting Room - with Chief Appraiser Taylor Humphries (229-336-2005) and the department's downloadable Homestead Exemption Application; the page states "The office reviews property exemption applications and appeals as well as other business and personal property forms." The Tax Assessor's qPublic record-search site (qpublic.net/ga/mitchell) answers a Cloudflare-style block to plain fetch and was not read (the gap goes to docs/COUNTY-REVISIT.md).
The route. A veteran files with the Tax Assessor's office before the April 1 deadline and reads the county's own page; the State entries carry the statutes (O.C.G.A. 48-5-48 and 48-5-52.1) and the 2026 indexed amount beside the county's printed $50,000 rows.
