Monmouth County Clerk Veterans’ ID Cards and Discharge Records
The County Clerk issues Veterans’ ID Cards and Gold Star Family ID Cards from the Freehold and Neptune offices on the long-form DD-214 listing an honorable character of service, certifies recorded DD-214s under N.J.S.A. 38:25.6, and processes NJ Special Hawker and Peddler Licenses for resident veterans.

Veterans' ID Cards. Clerk Christine Giordano Hanlon, Esq. issues the cards "as a way to honor and identify those Monmouth County residents who served our country in active military duty." "Applicants must bring in their NJ Driver's License and DD-214 Report of Separation Form (Long Form, Member 4; we cannot accept the Member 1 Form.) The DD-214 must list the applicant's 'Character of Service' as 'Honorable.'" Gold Star Family ID Cards follow the same offices, on a DD Form 1300 or a certification from a support organization. No fee is stated for either card. The cards "give Monmouth County veterans and Gold Star Family members the ability to receive valuable discounts from the local retailers listed in the Veterans' and Gold Star Family Discount Spreadsheet" - the clerk's "Honoring Our Heroes" discount directory, whose window clings are donated by members of the Asbury Park VFW Harold Daley Post 1333 - and are "not valid to conduct official business or to secure veterans and Gold Star Family benefits."

DD-214 copies. The clerk's forms page carries an "Affidavit of Identification Veterans Discharge Papers" that "requests a copy/certified copy of the DD-214 Veteran's Discharge papers, recorded in the Office of the Monmouth County Clerk (N.J.S.A. 38:25.6)." No fee is stated.
Peddler's licence. "NJ Special Hawker and Peddlers Licenses are issued to honorably discharged soldiers, sailors and marines, nurses or army field clerks, and exempt firemen"; the licence is valid only in the county of residence, so the clerk issues it to Monmouth County residents only, in person at the Freehold office in a two-visit process, on an unedited long-form DD-214 listing an honorable character of service plus proof of residency (six months in New Jersey, three months in Monmouth County). No fee is stated.
