Monroe County Clerk: Free Discharge Recording and the Return the F.A.V.O.R. Card
The Monroe County Clerk records a DD-214 free, returns it at once, keeps it sealed and gives certified copies free at any time. An honorably discharged veteran can get the Clerk's Return the F.A.V.O.R. card, which participating businesses honour with discounts.
Also called: DD-214, DD214, County Clerk, Return the FAVOR, discount card, Military Law 250.
Recording discharges. Bring the original DD-214 to the County Clerk's Office. It is returned at once, recording is free, the record is sealed from the public, and a certified copy, which stands in for the original, is free whenever the veteran needs one. See the New York entry on discharge recording. The Clerk's page says a veteran records "with the County Clerk's Office where they reside"; Military Law 250 lets a veteran record in "any one county".
Return the F.A.V.O.R. (Find and Assist Veterans of Record). The County Clerk issues honorably discharged veterans a card identifying them as veterans, which participating Monroe County businesses honour with discounts or special offers; reservists and active duty members show their military ID for the same discounts. The programme page asks for an honorable discharge but quotes, as its definition, 38 U.S.C. 101's "discharged or released ... under conditions other than dishonorable"; a veteran with a general discharge should ask.
