Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Congressman C.W. Bill Young tuition waiver, section 1009.26(13), waives out-of-state tuition and fees for an honorably discharged veteran who lives in Florida and enrolls at a Florida public postsecondary institution. The same waiver extends to a spouse or dependent child who lives in Florida and is using GI Bill benefits for that enrollment. Active duty members who live or are stationed outside Florida have a separate out-of-state waiver under section 1009.26(14). Section 1009.26(8) waives undergraduate tuition at state universities, Florida colleges, and career and technical centers for a Florida resident who received the Purple Heart or another combat decoration superior in precedence to the Purple Heart. That waiver is the decoration, not a disability rating. Two smaller rules sit beside the waivers. A state college or university that offers priority course registration extends it to a veteran who is using GI Bill benefits, under section 1004.075. Section 1009.26(17) waives the transcript fee for an active duty member or an honorably discharged veteran, and for the spouse and dependents. The Department of Education scholarship for children and spouses of deceased or totally and permanently disabled veterans is a different program.
