Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans program, section 295.01, pays for study at an eligible Florida postsecondary institution. The Department of Veterans Affairs certifies the veteran. The veteran died from a service-connected disability, or is a 100% service-connected permanent and total disabled veteran. The Office of Student Financial Assistance at the Department of Education decides the student award, and the school disburses it. This entry does not store a dollar cap, because the office publishes the award. The student applies through the state financial aid site. FDVA asks for proof of the relationship and proof of the veteran's Florida residency, and it certifies the veteran through its benefits office at (727) 319-7440. Death from a service-connected disability is a path the rating filter does not test. A child of a service member missing in action or a prisoner of war is pointed, on the department's education page, to a separate tuition benefit. This scholarship is not the out-of-state tuition waiver and not the Purple Heart tuition waiver.

GateRule
100% permanent and totalThe living-veteran path is a 100% service-connected permanent and total disability. Death from a service-connected disability is a separate path for the spouse or child. One path is a VA rating of 100% that is service-connected, permanent, and total.
Permanent and total on the 100% pathThe 100% rating has to be permanent and total. A 100% rating VA has not made permanent does not meet this path.
Permanent individual unemployabilityThe other path is individual unemployability that VA has found permanent and total. The letter has to certify that the veteran is totally and permanently disabled.
Permanent on the unemployability pathUnemployability qualifies on this path when VA has found it permanent and total.
