Denver Security Guard License: Application Fee Waived for Veterans

Denver waives the security guard licence application fee, $25 for an individual, for veterans. The yearly licence fee still applies.

Also called: security guard license, licensing fee, Excise and Licenses, Licensing and Consumer Protection, DRMC 32-95, private security.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Denver licenses security guards and private security employers under article V of chapter 42 of the Revised Municipal Code. DRMC 32-95 sets the fees: an application fee of $25 for an individual guard, $100 for an employer with fewer than 25 guards and $200 for a larger one, then a yearly licence fee of $25, $100 or $200. Paragraph (1)(d) says "Veterans shall be exempt from the application fee"; the yearly licence fee still applies. Chapter 32 does not define a veteran. The security guard article, DRMC 42-131(11), defines one as a person who served in the active military, naval or air service and was discharged or released under conditions other than dishonorable, as title 38 of the United States Code uses the term; expect the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection to ask for a DD-214 with the application.
