Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Fresno County Ordinance Code section 3.08.070 gives a preferential credit of five percent of the maximum rating on a competitive entrance examination, once the passing mark is reached, to anyone who served in the military or naval service "during a war as defined in the Military and Veterans Code" and was honorably discharged or released from active duty under honorable conditions. No credit is allowed on a promotional examination, and the section has no separate credit for a disability. On a 100-point examination that is five points. A general discharge under honorable conditions qualifies, but peacetime service outside a war period as the State defines it does not. Bring the DD-214 with the application. Section 3.08.080 separately keeps reinstatement and civil service status for a county employee who leaves for military service, as the Military and Veterans Code provides.
