Free tuition at a state technology center for an Oklahoma veteran who served 18 consecutive months between August 1964 and 1976, or was discharged with a service-connected disability, if used within 15 years of discharge, and for the child of a prisoner of war or missing service member. The Army benefits library describes it as open to any resident veteran; it is not.
18 months between August 10, 1964 and December 31, 1976, or discharged with a service-connected disability. 72 O.S. § 303(2).
A private Oklahoma employer may adopt a written policy preferring honorably discharged veterans in hiring, promotion and layoffs without breaking state anti-discrimination law. Nothing requires an employer to have one, and the veteran must be in the Veterans Registry.
Active duty, honorable discharge and registered. 40 O.S. § 801(B)(3).
The Orange County Tax Collector's exemption affidavit grants the section 205.055 business tax exemption to a veteran majority owner, with a DD-214, DD-2 or VA proof, but leaves out the veteran's spouse and unremarried surviving spouse, whom the statute also exempts. County Code 25-61 still adopts the repealed section 205.171 by reference.
Honorable discharge, or a listed spouse. An honorably discharged veteran, a spouse or unremarried surviving spouse, or a PCS military spouse, owning a majority of a business with fewer than 100 employees. No rating is needed.
Orange County lets a State-certified business majority owned and run by service-disabled veterans and based in Lake, Orange, Osceola or Seminole County win a county bid that is up to 3% to 8% above the low bid, scores 5 points on proposals, and wins ties. The ordinance does not follow the State's 2012 widening of certification to wartime veterans.
Service-connected disability, State certification, Orlando area. A State-certified business at least 51% owned and run by Florida veterans with any VA service-connected disability, located in the four-county Orlando area.
100% of tuition at the in-state rate at Oregon public universities and community colleges for a drilling Guard member. Fees and book allowances were not covered for the 2025-26 year, and a member who already holds a bachelor’s degree is ineligible.
Drilling Guard membership and no prior bachelor’s degree. Eligibility requires completed basic training, current Oregon National Guard membership in good standing, active drilling with all training attended, no federal loan default, a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, and no bachelor’s degree or higher already earned. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
A veteran discharged honorably pays resident tuition at an Oregon public institution after establishing physical presence in Oregon within 12 months of enrolling, with no waiting period. A military spouse or dependent child admitted as a resident keeps that status while continuously enrolled.
Discharge and physical presence, not a rating. The veteran route under ORS 350.290 requires a discharge that is honorable or general under honorable conditions, plus proof of physical presence in Oregon within 12 months of enrolling. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
An enforceable right to time off on November 11 from any Oregon employer, paid or unpaid at the employer’s choice. Give 21 days notice with a DD-214, and a denial requires proof of significant disruption plus a make-up day.
Proof of service and 21 days notice. The right requires eligible veteran status and notice with proof of service, such as a DD-214, at least 21 days before November 11. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
A full tuition waiver at Oregon public universities and OHSU for the child or spouse of a veteran rated 100% or killed in service. The age limit for a child rose from 23 to 31 in 2025, and some university pages still print the old number.
The veteran must be at 100%, or have died. The family route requires a service member who died on active duty, died as a result of a service-connected disability, or is 100 percent disabled as the result of a service-connected disability, certified by VA or a branch. This is a certification about the veteran rather than about the student, so the rating filter cannot test it.
Up to $5,000 for a veteran stuck short of finishing a program, either because a required class is not offered or because a balance on the student account blocks registration. It targets the specific problem that makes people quit near the end.
The ORS 408.225 service test. Eligibility is Oregon’s statutory veteran definition plus Oregon residency. Oregon's statutory definition asks for a discharge under honorable conditions plus one of: more than 90 consecutive days beginning on or before January 31, 1955; more than 178 consecutive days beginning after January 31, 1955; 178 days or less with a discharge caused by a service-connected disability; 178 days or less plus a VA disability rating; at least one day in a combat zone; a combat, campaign, or expeditionary ribbon or medal; or receipt of a nonservice-connected VA pension. No rating percentage is required, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
Five percentage points for a veteran and ten for a disabled veteran at every level of Oregon government, and unlike most states it applies to promotions too. Since January 1, 2026 it also covers current and former Oregon National Guard members.
A service-connected disability rating, any compensable level. The ten percentage point preference is met by a service-connected disability rating from VA, a discharge for a service-connected injury or illness, or a Purple Heart. Oregon names no percentage, so any compensable rating reaches it, and this entry is gated at 10 percent to reflect the lowest compensable rating rather than a stated floor.
Permanent Commonwealth government employees who serve in the Guard, a reserve component, the FEMA Reservist Program, the NOAA Corps or another USERRA service get up to 30 working days of paid leave a year for ordered service, doubled from 15 by Public Law 24-18 in November 2025.
Permanent government employees in a uniformed service. The leave covers permanent employees of every branch and autonomous agency of the Commonwealth government who are members of the National Guard, a reserve component, the FEMA Reservist Program, the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps, or another uniformed service covered by USERRA. Private employees and non-permanent government staff are outside it.
The Palm Beach County Tax Collector exempts an honorably discharged veteran, a spouse or unremarried surviving spouse, and a military spouse moved by PCS orders from the county business tax on its Form 49, as section 205.055 requires. County Code section 17-43 still prints the repealed rule: a disabled wartime veteran, $50.
Honorable discharge, or a listed spouse. An honorably discharged veteran, a spouse or unremarried surviving spouse, or a PCS military spouse. No rating is needed.
Palm Beach County takes Florida's veterans preference on the State's certification form, due with the application by the closing date. Its Merit System Rules give preference in layoffs only to veterans discharged from active duty in time of war, where section 295.07 extends retention preference to every listed group, and the form cites the exempt positions to subsection (4), now (5).
Section 295.07 categories. Any of the section 295.07 categories, with documents by the closing date. The county limits layoff preference to wartime veterans.
The Pasco County Tax Collector limits the veterans' business tax exemption to sole proprietors who are permanent Florida residents and asks for a VA Veteran ID card, none of which section 205.055 requires; it also still offers an unremarried widow of a disabled veteran only $50, from the repealed section 205.171, where section 205.055 exempts her in full. County Code 102-52 still prints the old rule.
Honorable discharge, or a listed spouse. Under the statute: an honorably discharged veteran, a spouse or unremarried surviving spouse, or a PCS military spouse, including a majority-owned business under 100 employees. No rating is needed.
A high school diploma a Pennsylvania school board may grant, as an honorary degree, to an honorably discharged veteran who left school to serve in World War II, Korea or Vietnam, posthumously too. It is a diploma, not an equivalency certificate, but each board decides.
Left school to serve in World War II, Korea, or Vietnam. The gates are having left high school to enter military service during one of the three recognized periods and an honorable discharge, and the school board decides. No disability rating is involved, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
Pennsylvania's Veterans' Preference Act (51 Pa.C.S. Chapter 71) adds 10 points to a veteran's passing civil service examination score, makes an appointing authority prefer a qualified veteran for a public job filled without an examination (7104(a)) or from a civil service list (7104(b)), counts wartime service toward seniority in a layoff, and extends the same preference to a surviving spouse and to the spouse of a permanently and totally disabled veteran. A discharge under conditions other than dishonorable is enough; no rating is needed. It does not apply to promotions.
A discharge under conditions other than dishonorable, with no rating. Section 7101.2 accepts an honorable or general discharge, or an other-than-dishonorable discharge VA has found eligible, and tests no disability rating, so the rating filter never hides this benefit.
City of Philadelphia civil service applies the State's veterans preference, and the Home Rule Charter lets an appointing authority pass over a non-veteran to hire a veteran without it counting as a rejection. The one-year city residency rule is met by someone who lived in the city for a year before leaving for military service and moves back within six months.
A veteran who passes the examination. The preference follows the State statute; the Charter and Code add the pass-over and residency rules. No rating is needed.
Pima County's One-Stop runs the Kino Veterans' Workforce Center in Tucson, with job search and training help, tools and uniforms, peer support, and benefits counselling and claims help with VA partners on site. Pinellas County's written procedure for Florida's veterans preference guarantees every minimally qualified preference-eligible applicant at least one interview, gives a tie to the preference-eligible applicant, gives disabled veterans and certain spouses priority over other eligibles, and makes hiring departments document the preference given at each step.
Section 295.07 categories, honorable discharge. Any of the section 295.07 categories; the rating matters only for priority among eligibles.
Five points on a passing examination score for a veteran or a veteran's unmarried surviving spouse, and ten for a veteran with any compensable service-connected disability or the spouse of one rated 80% or more, on first entry into county service. The county's jobs page adds a five-year separation limit the code does not have.
Compensable rating for ten points. Five points need qualifying service and a discharge other than dishonorable. Ten points need a compensable service-connected rating (10% or more); a spouse needs the veteran at 80%.
Polk County gives a full-time employee in the Guard or a reserve component 15 days of paid military leave a year plus travel time for annual training, carrying unused days into the next year up to 15, and up to 30 working days paid when called up for an emergency, on top of vacation (County Code section 250.00).

A qualified veteran, state service member or qualified disabled veteran. The preference runs on qualifying service and documentation, not on a rating percentage; recorded so the rating filter never hides this benefit.

Disabled veteran priority at 30%. A permanent, compensated service-connected disability of 30% or more puts a veteran in the first group. A veteran with no rating is in the second group, ahead of other applicants.
The District has no military spouse licensing statute of its own. Federal law makes a service member’s or spouse’s licence valid in the District on application after a move on military orders, the District has joined several licensing compacts, and a spouse who quits to follow a partner is not disqualified from unemployment.
Relocating on the service member’s military orders. 50 U.S.C. 4025a(a).

Code 7.0208 gives a career service employee ordered to active or reserve duty the right to be restored to their position, exercised within 120 days of release. USERRA sits over the top of it and is usually more protective.
The 120 days is yours to use, not theirs to take. Code 7.0208 entitles the employee, within 120 days after release from duty under honorable conditions, to be restored to the position held when ordered to duty. It is the window for claiming the right. Apply in writing as soon as you return rather than treating 120 days as time in hand.
State institutions must award academic credit for military training or service where academically appropriate, and must let combat veterans register first for all classes, ranked by combat tours and service awards.
Combat veteran status, defined by rule rather than statute. The chapter names no disability rating, residency requirement, or discharge characterization. It turns on combat veteran status, which the commissioner of higher education and the adjutant general define by rule. The rating filter never hides this benefit.
Five points added to a passing examination score for a veteran and ten for a disabled veteran, for entrance into the classified service only and never for promotion. Twenty years in the Guard or Reserve counts as veteran status.

The fund reaches families of a veteran who died from hostile action, from a service-connected disability, or from any cause while such a disability was in existence.
