Polk County Veterans Hiring Preference

In county hiring, a qualified veteran or qualified state service member receives 5 points and a qualified disabled veteran 10 points - never both - applied to interview and written-test scores; the preference requires documentation with each recruitment and may be used any number of times.

Also called: veterans preference, hiring, employment, 5 points, 10 points, Human Resources, disabled veteran.

For: Veteran or service member.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Polk County's Human Resources page states the county's administration of Oregon's veterans preference in public employment: "veterans who meet the minimum qualifications and any special qualifications for a position may be eligible for Veterans' Hiring Preference in public employment." The points: "Individuals may receive either 5 points as a qualified veteran (non-disabled) or qualified state service member. Qualified disabled veteran will receive 10 points, but not both." The county applies the points to interview and/or written test scores as appropriate. Two operating rules the page states: the preference "will not be awarded without the appropriate documentation", and while there is no limit to the number of times it can be used, "you must submit the required documentation for each recruitment."
