Putnam County Employees: Paid Military Training Leave
Putnam County gives a full-time employee in a reserve component up to 20 working days of paid military training leave a calendar year, not for weekend drills, plus 20 more if reactivated for training that fulfils next year's obligation, and unpaid leave with USERRA rights for drills and active duty (personnel policy revised April 20, 2026).
Also called: military leave, county employees, reserve, National Guard, 20 working days, USERRA, personnel policy, Cookeville, Algood, Baxter, Monterey, Silver Point, Buffalo Valley, Double Springs.
The Countywide Personnel Policy (revised April 20, 2026, approved by the Commission that day), section 20, Military Leave of Absence Policy: "Full-time employees who are members of any military reserve component will be granted paid military training leave for such time as they are in military service on field training or active duty for periods not to exceed twenty (20) working days per calendar year. This time may not be used for weekend drills. Such requested leave shall be supported with copies of the armed forces orders." An employee who has finished the year's training and is reactivated for more is allowed another 20 paid days if it falls in the same calendar year and fulfils the next year's obligation, and keeps benefits while on training leave.
Unpaid leave. Employees other than short-term temporary hires get unpaid leave for drills, training or active duty with the armed forces or the State National Guard, on a copy of the orders, "in accordance with rights of employees pursuant to the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act and applicable state law", with USERRA's return deadlines (7, 14 or 90 days after service of under 31, 31 to 180, or 181 or more days). The policy also restates FMLA military family leave. See the Tennessee entries on public employees' military leave (Tennessee Code 8-33-109).
