Since January 9, 2026 New Jersey has a separate cabinet-level Department of Veterans Affairs, split from the old Department of Military and Veterans' Affairs. Its service officers help with VA claims at no charge in every county, and a new independent Veteran Advocate investigates complaints about the department's own homes and services.
