Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Veterans treatment courts in New York are part of the State's Unified Court System, one in each borough. A case goes to the court of the borough where it is heard; the defence lawyer or the court's coordinator asks for the referral. The team includes the judge, the prosecutor, defence counsel, treatment providers, VA's justice outreach staff and volunteer veteran mentors. Courts, as the Unified Court System lists them on 2026-10-02. Bronx: Bronx Veterans Court, Bronx Hall of Justice, 265 East 161st Street (718-618-3171). Brooklyn: Brooklyn Misdemeanor Veterans Treatment Court, 320 Jay Street, 14th floor (347-404-9556). Manhattan: Manhattan Veteran Treatment Court, 100 Centre Street (646-386-4634). Queens: Queens Misdemeanor Veterans Court, 125-01 Queens Boulevard, Kew Gardens (718-298-1303). Staten Island: Richmond County Veterans Treatment Court, 26 Central Avenue (718-675-8530). Who it takes. The Unified Court System states that its veterans treatment courts "accept veterans with all characters of military discharge", so an other than honorable discharge is not a bar. The courts do not publish charge limits; Brooklyn's and Queens' are misdemeanor courts. Chapter 91 of the Laws of 2021 also lets a case be moved to a veterans treatment court in an adjoining county. A page to read with care. The Brooklyn court's own page describes it as treatment for "nonviolent felony drug offenders", text carried over from a drug court, while its name and mission statement say it serves veterans charged with misdemeanors. Ask the court or defence counsel which charges it takes.
