The record. The Court meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioners' Courtroom on the third floor of the Newton County Courthouse, 110 East Court Street, Newton, as County Judge Ronald J. Cochran and Commissioners Danny Bentsen, Phillip A. White, Prentiss L. Hopson and Leanord E. "Bubba" Powell Jr. The county posts its agendas on the Public Notices calendar and video recordings on the Commissioners Court page, but not its minutes; the 37 agendas and notices of September 2, 2025 through October 13, 2026 were read whole. What the year shows. Every regular session's consent agenda (fifteen of them, September 9, 2025 through October 13, 2026) lists "Monthly Departmental Reports", item 14 being the "Veteran's Office". The September 8, 2026 session held the public hearings and adopted the 2027 budget "including attached list of corrections", with $35,683.32 for the Veteran's Service department (see the office's entry). No agenda names a Veterans Day proclamation, a veterans grant or any other veterans item. What is not on record. The reports themselves and the Court's votes are not posted; the October 13, 2026 agenda approves the minutes of every meeting from January 23, 2025 through October 6, 2026, which the County Clerk, Sandra K. Duckworth (409-379-5341), keeps. No veteran benefit was adopted, narrowed or repealed on the record read.
