Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Revised Code 124.23(C) adds a percentage of the total grade to a passing score on an examination for a position in the classified service. Twenty per cent goes to an Ohio resident who has completed service in the uniformed services and was honorably discharged or transferred to the reserve with evidence of satisfactory service, and to a reserve or Guard member who has served more than 180 days of active duty under a presidential order or act of Congress. The person files a certificate of service or honorable discharge. Fifteen per cent goes to a member in good standing of a reserve component or the Ohio National Guard who has completed initial entry-level training. A person cannot take both. "Service in the uniformed services" is wide: active duty, active duty for training, initial active duty for training, inactive duty training and full-time Guard duty, in the armed forces, the Guard, the Public Health Service commissioned corps and any category the President designates in war or emergency. The credit is added only to a passing grade (124.23(F)). Section 124.23(A) makes every applicant for the classified service subject to examination, and chapter 124 covers the classified service of counties and cities as well as the state, so a county civil service commission or personnel department gives the same credit.
