Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The veteran's employee resource notification act, 2024 PA 197, took effect on April 2, 2025 and reaches further than almost any other provision in this file, because it binds every employer rather than every public employer. Who must post. An employer means any person or entity that employs one or more full-time employees. There is no small business exemption, no minimum number of veteran employees, and no requirement that the employer know it has any. Where. At the employer's place of business, in a conspicuous place accessible to the employer's employees. What the poster must contain. Nine items are listed and the list is a minimum rather than a maximum: the telephone number and website for the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; mental health and substance abuse services; education, workforce or job training resources; tax benefits; how to obtain a veteran designation on a driver licence under MCL 257.310 or on a state personal identification card under MCL 28.292; eligibility for unemployment benefits under the Michigan Employment Security Act or federal law; legal services; the telephone number and website for the United States Department of Veterans Affairs; and the telephone number for the VA veterans crisis line. Who makes it. The Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, working with the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, must create the poster and make it available to employers free of charge, and both departments must make it available in a downloadable format on their websites. An employer complies by printing the state's poster; it does not have to draft anything. What this is really for. The act is aimed at the veteran who does not identify as one and has never contacted a veterans organisation. Michigan's own estimates have long held that a large share of the state's veterans are not enrolled with VA at all. Putting the crisis line number on a breakroom wall reaches a person whom every application-based program in this catalog misses. The act contains no penalty provision and names no enforcement agency, which is worth knowing in both directions: an employer is unlikely to be fined for not posting, and a veteran has no complaint route if their employer does not. The driver licence item is not incidental. Section 257.310 lets the Secretary of State pass information from a veteran designation applicant to the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and to county veterans service agencies for benefits eligibility referral, so asking for the designation is itself a way into the system the poster is advertising.
