Every jurisdiction in this catalog has entries whose figures move when a bill passes, whose act takes effect on a later date, or whose program is repealed while its agency keeps advertising it. This page watches each jurisdiction's law, follows a bill through its own jurisdiction's process where its stages are recorded, and names the catalog entries each instrument touches.
3 instruments in Louisiana. Tracked across 51 jurisdictions. Every other jurisdiction on the board is still watched by hand.
A bill that died is listed only where a guide, an agency, or a news story has described it as current law. That is the failure that puts a number in front of a veteran which no assessor, registrar, or school will honor.
▲Expands benefitsBars any fee for the medical records a veteran requests for a disability claim.
No provider, facility, or custodian of healthcare information may charge any fee for preparing, reproducing, handling, or transmitting medical records requested by or for a veteran for the sole purpose of a disability claim. The Department of Veterans Affairs legislative release described it as a per-facility waiver; the enrolled act says once per veteran.
▲Expands benefitsLets the Military Family Assistance Fund pay indigent veteran burials and make grants to organizations serving veterans.
Enacted R.S. 46:122(B)(7), (8) and (C): the fund may also pay indigent veteran burials and indigent student benefits, and the board may make one-time grants of up to $10,000, capped at $100,000 a fiscal year, to 501(c)(3) organizations serving veterans’ education, mental health or housing.
▼Restricts benefitsLimits the free cruise terminal parking at the Port of New Orleans to Louisiana disabled veterans rated 50 percent or more.
Amended R.S. 29:27.2 so the seven-day free parking, subject to availability, goes only to a Louisiana disabled veteran at 50 percent or more who shows a military honor plate or a Department of Veterans Affairs certificate and a Louisiana driver’s license or identification card. Proof is the plate or the certificate, not both.
