Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Wayne County Code section 141-6 sets three routes, each capped at six years of credited service in all and each for active duty of 30 days or more in time of declared war, national emergency or compulsory service recognized by the retirement commission. Intervening service. A member who leaves county employment for military service gets the credit at no cost if the member returns to a covered county job within a year of the end of service, or within 90 days of leaving hospital where the member was hospitalized for a service injury or disease when service ended. Earlier service, by purchase. A member whose service did not interrupt county employment can buy the credit in one-month steps: under purchase programme 1 by paying 50% of the increase in the actuarial present value of benefits, under programme 2 by paying 100%. Which programme applies depends on the member's coverage group. In every route, service that is or can be used under another retirement system does not count.
