Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The ordinance. Ordinance Code chapter 2.57 (Ord. 3077, 2009): the Military and Veterans Code governs county employees' military leave (section 2.57.010; Military and Veterans Code 395.01 pays up to 30 days a fiscal year of ordered duty to an employee with a year of public service). Section 2.57.020: "Any regular (excluding relief) employee working half time or more who has been called to active military duty or volunteers for active military duty during a period of armed conflict shall be allowed time off with no loss in pay after exhausting salary or compensation to which he or she is entitled under the California Military and Veterans Code. Such salary augmentation of up to one hundred percent (100%) of his or her regular County base salary will be in combination with all military pay while engaged in the performance of ordered active military duty." The employee must document military pay to the Auditor-Controller; if military pay exceeds county pay, nothing is paid. Benefits. Section 2.57.030: an employee on family coverage keeps county health, vision and dental insurance for the employee and dependants, with the premiums the county usually pays; an employee on single coverage does not; life and disability insurance stop, and the cafeteria cash-out is not allowed. What to check. The ordinance does not define "a period of armed conflict"; ask Human Resources, 2 South Green Street, Sonora, before orders begin. Federal reemployment rights under USERRA apply whatever the county pays.
