Code § 18-30, citing Public Act 16-191, gives a veteran entitled under C.G.S. 12-81(19) an additional exemption of $20,000 off assessed value, a veteran entitled under 12-81(20) an additional $3,000, and a surviving spouse entitled under 12-81(22) an additional $20,000, in each case for income not more than the 12-81l maximum. It took effect for assessment years from October 1, 2016, with the increased amounts from October 1, 2017, and was last amended by Res. No. TC26-134 on June 5, 2017. Code § 18-31, adopted by Res. No. TC30-172 on October 6, 2025 for assessment years from October 1, 2025, enacts the 2025 veterans’ acts: the dwelling exemption of 12-81(83)(F) for the surviving spouse of a veteran rated 100 percent permanently and totally disabled who died after January 1, 1941 and before October 1, 2024, the 12-81qq exemption for the surviving spouse of a person killed in action, and, in lieu of the 12-81(20) exemption, the 12-81pp dwelling exemption for a veteran rated totally disabled through individual unemployability. The town limits the land component to two acres and every exemption under the section to the median assessed value of residential property in Trumbull. The assessor’s veteran exemptions page prints a $3,000 regular veteran’s exemption, applied to real estate or a motor vehicle, on a DD-214 filed with the Town Clerk by September 30. That is the statutory wartime exemption of 12-81(19) with the additional exemption of 12-81g(a), which doubles it for income under the 12-81l limit; the 2026 grand list limits are $46,300 single and $56,500 married. The page links the D-2 form and OPM’s September 8, 2025 memo on the annual January 1 filing for the 12-81(83) exemption, and cites the 2025 and 2024 house bills behind the TDIU and permanent and total exemptions.
