Summit County Fiscal Office: Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption

Summit County's Fiscal Office takes the State's disabled veteran homestead application. Its page calls the veteran credit an "additional" exemption on $58,000, where the law makes it a replacement for the ordinary credit and the 2026 figure is $59,400, and asks for an honorable discharge where the statute accepts a general one.

Also called: homestead, property tax, DTE 105I, Fiscal Office, unemployability, 323.152.

For: Veteran or service member, survivor.

Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The exemption is the State's, under Revised Code 323.152(A)(2); see the Ohio entry. In Summit County the Fiscal Office takes it (330-643-2661). File DTE 105I by December 31 with a copy of an Ohio driver's licence or state ID as proof of residence, the DD-214, and the VA award letter assigning a 100% rating, or granting compensation at 100% with the finding that individual unemployability was granted. There is no income test. Where the page is wrong. It says eligible veterans "receive an additional exemption on the first $58,000 of appraised value". The veteran reduction is not added to the ordinary $29,000 one: section 323.152(A)(2)(a) makes it "in lieu of" the ordinary reduction. And $58,000 was the tax year 2025 figure; for tax year 2026 real property it is the tax on $59,400 of market value. The page also asks for a DD-214 "displaying an honorable discharge". Section 323.151(F) accepts a discharge "under honorable conditions", which includes a general discharge.
