Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Storey County's veteran money runs through the Board of County Commissioners, and its 2026 resolutions name both lines. The grant. The Board's June 16, 2026 packet carried item 20, "Consideration and possible approval of Resolution No. 26-824 granting the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Evans-Kendall Post 8071, a 501(c)(19) nonprofit, a sum not to exceed $12,000.00 for fiscal year 2026-2027, for the purpose of providing services to Veterans and the Storey County community." The resolution's recitals trace the money's legality - NRS 372.3261(5), the county's own determination that the grant serves "the religious, charitable or educational purposes of the organization", and the post's standing as "a Nevada domestic non-profit corporation operating in the State of Nevada". The packet notes the ask "has increased by $2,000 to cover additional expenses for fundraising", and John Strahan of the post spoke to it. The Board approved the resolution 2-0 on July 21, 2026 (Commissioners Mitchell-Clay and Carmona voting, one absent), and also recognized Bryan Staples, "recently elected state commander for all of the VFW Posts in Nevada". Post 8071 is the Fallon post that also seeks Churchill County's community-support funding, so its service area runs from Fallon into the Storey County community. The banners. The Board's October 20, 2026 packet carried Resolution No. 26-831 "recognizing and expressing appreciation to Philip and Diane Greaves for their dedication to the C Street Veteran Banners in Virginia City, Nevada", and the same packet carries the adopted motion (moved by Commissioner Mitchell, seconded by Commissioner Gilman, "Aye: 3"). The resolution's staff summary records the program's shape: "established in 2012 to honor fallen and active military members", it has "become a meaningful" Virginia City institution, and the Greaveses' dedication kept it running. The banners hang on C Street, the town's main street. A veteran organization seeking Storey County money follows the same route: a resolution on the Board's agenda, with the ask stated against NRS 372.3261(5) and the services it will buy.
