Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Section 205.055 exempts from a local business tax and its fees an honorably discharged veteran, the spouse or unremarried surviving spouse of one, the spouse of an active duty member relocated to the county by a permanent change of station order, and people on public assistance or under 130% of the poverty level; a business with fewer than 100 employees is exempt too if one of them owns a majority interest. There is no disability, wartime, sole-proprietor or income test for the veteran; see the Florida entry. What the Tax Collector's pages say. The Local Business Tax page (which carries the county's receipt ordinance, 07-016) does not mention any exemption. The Military and Veterans page offers a free receipt to "DISABLED VETERANS", described as "sole proprietors (individuals) who qualify for a Disabled Person exemption and also provide proof of an honorable discharge", and to the "WIDOW(ER) DECEASED DISABLED VETERAN ... un-remarried spouse of a deceased disabled veteran of any war". That is section 205.171, which chapters 2018-80 and 2018-118 repealed. Section 205.055 reaches further: an honorably discharged veteran needs no disability, a spouse or surviving spouse needs no veteran's disability, and a PCS military spouse qualifies. A veteran turned away should cite section 205.055. Where.
