Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Section 205.055 exempts from a local business tax and its fees an honorably discharged veteran, the spouse or unremarried surviving spouse of one, the spouse of an active duty member relocated to the county by a permanent change of station order, and people on public assistance or under 130% of the poverty level; see the Florida entry. A business with fewer than 100 employees is exempt too if one of them owns a majority interest. The affidavit. The St. Johns County Tax Collector's Affidavit for Exemption (revised May 2026) lists each section 205.055 category, with the DD-214, a VA veteran ID card or a Florida licence or ID with the veteran designation as proof for a veteran or spouse, and PCS orders for a military spouse. It does not offer the majority-owned business exemption in section 205.055(3), and it asks the applicant to certify Florida residence, which section 205.055 does not require. Its note that businesses selling alcohol get no exemption reflects section 205.162(2), which concerns the beverage licence. The FAQ. The Business Tax FAQ says there are "fee exemption[s] ... for disabled veterans (up to $50.00)". That was section 205.171, which chapters 2018-80 and 2018-118 repealed; a veteran need not be disabled and there is no $50 cap.
