St. Charles County Jobs: Military Leave and Differential Pay
St. Charles County pays Guard and Reserve employees for all State duty and up to 15 calendar days of federal duty a year, and for those sent into harm's way on designated operations pays the difference between military pay and county pay, with health and dental cover. Its Veteran Employee Taskforce promotes veteran hiring.
Also called: military leave, differential pay, county jobs, Guard, Reserve, 105.270, USERRA, Veteran Employee Taskforce, VET, Ordinance 14.066.
Section 115.250 of the County Code governs leave for employees who are members of the National Guard or a reserve component.
Paid leave. Without loss of time, pay or leave, for all State duty ordered by the Governor and the adjutant general, however long, and for federal duty or training up to 15 calendar days in any federal fiscal year; days the employee was not scheduled to work do not count. Submit a leave request with the orders. Other military absences can be charged to paid time off or compensatory time or taken unpaid.
Extended service. An employee called up for an extended or indefinite period keeps the position, seniority, accumulated leave, pay status and work schedule until the service ends, with no loss of retirement benefits.
Differential pay. An employee on active duty with the Guard or Reserve in Operation Noble Eagle or Operation Enduring Freedom, or another action the Director of Administration approves, on foreign or American soil and placed in harm's way, receives the difference between military compensation and county compensation, and keeps health and dental insurance on the terms in section 115.320. The section has not been amended since 2012, so the named operations are of that era; ask Human Resources whether a current deployment is approved.
Veteran Employee Taskforce. Created by Ordinance 14.066 in 2014, the Taskforce of county employees who are veterans works to make St. Charles County Government and local businesses veteran-friendly employers; county bid forms ask bidders whether they have a veteran-friendly employment policy. For county jobs ask Human Resources (636-949-7900, ext. 5574).
