Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Solano County Civil Service Rule 5.05(B), in the rules as revised February 8, 2023, adds five points to the combined score of a veteran applicant with an honorable or general under honorable conditions discharge, and ten points for a disabled veteran, on a passing score in a competitive open examination. Definitions (rules 2.59 and 2.15, 1987). A veteran served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty and received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions; there is no war-period test. A disabled veteran is a veteran with a service-connected disability rated at not less than 30 percent by an agency of the United States government. Limits. The points apply only to competitive open examinations, not promotional ones. Only one type of preference may be applied in a recruitment, so a current county employee who qualifies for the five-point promotional preference on an open examination gets that or the veterans' points, not both. Reservists and Guard members with less than 181 consecutive days of active duty are outside the definition.
