Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The State requires the first $150,000 (AS 29.45.030(e); the Alaska entry records it). Skagway Municipal Code 4.10.030(A)(1) exempts a resident who is a disabled veteran, 65 or older, or a widow or widower at least 60 of either, "on the first one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000.00) of the assessed value of the real property as required by AS 29.45.030 and an additional two hundred thousand dollars ($200,000.00) of the assessed value of the real property (totaling three hundred fifty thousand dollars ($350,000.00))", on the home they own and occupy as the primary residence and permanent place of abode. It is the largest dollar amount any written Alaska borough gives a disabled veteran, after the Kenai Peninsula Borough's unlimited exemption. Every year, by January 15. The municipality furnishes the forms, and applications are accepted through January 15 of the assessment year (SMC 4.10.030). The Clerk's notice of November 14, 2025 said the 2026 forms had been mailed, had to be received at City Hall by January 15, 2026, and that "all eligible residents must submit a form every year to receive the exemption"; a property owner who becomes a disabled veteran must notify City Hall to enroll. The amount has been $350,000 since Ordinance 23-12 of June 15, 2023, the section's last amendment. At the Board of Equalization on May 27, 2026 the mayor spoke of "the $300,000 senior or 50% veteran disabled valuation" while explaining why some homes are assessed at zero; the code, current through Ordinance 26-10 of September 17, 2026, says $350,000.
