Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The fund. Seward County keeps fund 1900, Veterans Aid, with one line, 2-8700 Soldiers/Sailors Relief. The 2025-2026 budget designates it a special reserve fund "Funds for Veterans" and shows nothing spent in 2023-2024 or 2024-2025; the 2026-2027 budget shows nothing spent in 2025-2026 either, against $5,052.00 budgeted. For 2026-2027 the line was requested at $10,052.26 and proposed and adopted at $5,052.26 - the fund's whole balance, which has stood at $5,052.26 since at least July 2024. The county's tax request sets the Veteran's Aid levy at 0.000000 for both 2025-2026 and 2026-2027, so nothing new goes in. Applying. The office's page lists "Seward County Veterans Aid Applications" among its services; apply through the Veterans Service Office, (402) 643-4105. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need. Since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county; there is no wartime test. With $5,052.26 available for the year, a large request may exceed what the fund holds. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
