Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The assessor page describes the office’s duties as including “applying tax exemptions and abatements such as veterans, disabled, blind, farm and elderly,” and its “Assessment Reductions for Veterans” section prints a minimum 4,500 assessment reduction for a DD-214 on file in the Town Clerk’s office before October 1. The filing is one time only and is applied every year after the initial filing, and a disabled veteran provides a copy of the VA benefits letter to the assessor for a higher assessment reduction. The page carries a Veterans Programs subpage among its resources. The office is open Wednesdays 5 to 7 p.m. and by appointment, and questions go to the assessor at 860-423-9634 x 4. The page’s “Additional Veteran’s program” is income qualifying: for calendar year 2021 the limits were $38,100 maximum for a single person household and $46,400 maximum if married, and for a veteran rated 100 percent disabled by the VA, $18,000 for a single person household and $21,000 if married. The application period is February 1 through October 1, renewal applications are required every 2 years, and VA disability, economic stimulus and Social Security income are not counted toward the income limits. The page’s Military Motor Vehicle Exemptions section says active duty military members are eligible for the exemption of one motor vehicle from local motor vehicle taxes and must file the Active Duty Form annually to continue receiving it. OLR’s 2023 survey recorded Scotland as offering no municipal option. No code was found on a readable host.

Figures

Each figure is dated with the day it was read. A local figure moves whenever the statute or the local ordinance does, so confirm it with the office that grants it before you rely on it. Statute verified gives the day the weekly section check last found the statute standing on the legislature’s own code site; a figure without it rests on a statute the check does not read yet.
