The fund. Saunders County's adopted 2026-2027 budget carries fund 1900, the Veteran's Relief Fund, with one activity, Veteran's Aid, and one real line, Emergency Relief. Its revenue page shows a balance of $97,375.57 on July 1, 2023, $101,120.00 a year later, $104,439.52 on July 1, 2025 and $107,792.13 on July 1, 2026, and the only money coming in is interest ($3,744.43, $3,319.52 and $3,352.61). Its expenditure page shows nothing spent in any of those three years - $105,440.00 was budgeted for 2025-2026 and $0 paid - and $107,440.00 budgeted for emergency relief in 2026-2027, with no property tax requested for the fund. What that means for a veteran. The money is there; the county simply has not paid any out in three years, and the Veterans Services page does not mention the fund. A veteran, spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need should ask the Veterans Service Office, 402-443-8137, by name. Section 80-102 lets the county veterans service committee grant aid; since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, with no wartime test. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion.
