Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The State's relief is under Tennessee Code 67-5-701 to 67-5-705; the Tennessee entries carry its eligibility. What Robertson County adds is a match. The county's words, from the Trustee's Tax Relief Program page: "the State of Tennessee offers a property tax relief program for a disabled veteran and widow(er) of a disabled veteran who was totally and permanently disabled from a service related disability. This program will provide payment toward the tax on an 2026 appraised property value of up to $175,000." "Since 2023 Robertson County matches the amount paid by the State for the elderly/disabled and applies that amount toward the tax bill for qualified veteran/spouse tax relief applicants. ... The amount of the 2026 tax relief for qualifying disabled veteran/spouse applicants in Robertson County is $726 from the State and $139 from the County totaling up to $865 in assistance. There is no income limit for a qualifying disabled veteran or widow(er). The applicant must own the home and use it as the primary residence for the year applying." How it is paid. In the first year the tax must be paid in full and the receipt sent to the State with the application; the State refunds, and the county mails its own refund check once the State approves. In later years a voucher applies both amounts to the bill and the homeowner pays the net. The county's match equals the State's elderly and disabled payment ($139 for 2026), not the larger veteran payment. When and what to bring. "2026 Tax Relief Applications will be available in October 2026"; "The DEADLINE for 2026 Tax Relief applications will be April 5th, 2027." Bring a Social Security card, proof of age, one proof of address (a Veterans Administration letter or 1099 counts), proof of disability and, for a mobile home, the title or bill of sale. The office does not take new applications in the last weeks of February. Trustee, 615-384-4238, fax 615-382-2316.

Thresholds

Thresholds for Robertson County Trustee: State Tax Relief for Disabled Veterans, with a County Match
GateRule
Permanent and total, as VA determines itThe county match goes only to a disabled veteran or widow(er) the State approves for its relief. The rating route in 67-5-704(b)(3) asks for service-connected permanent and total disability as determined by VA, which a veteran paid at the total rate through unemployability that VA has found permanent also holds. It is recorded rather than enforced because the paraplegia, blindness and loss-of-limbs route and the prisoner of war route need no rating at all.
Or a named loss, at any ratingParaplegia or permanent paralysis of both legs and the lower body, legal blindness, or loss or loss of use of two or more limbs from a service-connected cause qualifies whatever the combined rating, as does one hundred percent permanent total disability from having been a prisoner of war. The state entry on disabled veteran property tax relief sets out the routes.
