Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies Veterans Fitness Program
A free year of fitness and aquatics center access, up to 15 personal training sessions, and social events from Prince George's Parks and Recreation for a county resident veteran with a service-connected rating of 10% or more.
Also called: HMHB, fitness, gym, pool, parks and recreation, M-NCPPC, pgparks, 10%.
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission's Department of Parks and Recreation in Prince George's County runs Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, a free program started in 2011 for veterans returning home with a disability.
The department lists four conditions: residence in Prince George's County, service in any branch of the U.S. military, being a returning veteran with a service-connected disability of 10% or more, and an honorable discharge.
A participant gets a one-year Fitness and Aquatics Combo Pass that covers more than 45 community and fitness centers and seven indoor aquatic facilities, up to fifteen one-hour sessions within that year with a trainer certified as a post-rehabilitation exercise specialist, members-only classes and clinics, and monthly social and recreational events. The veteran can name a workout partner on the account, who comes along for support but does not get a pass or training of their own. Training is offered at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex and the Southern Area Aquatics and Recreation Complex.
