Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The office. The Pierce County Veterans Service Office is in Room 6 of the courthouse, 111 W. Court Street, Pierce, NE 68767, phone (402) 329-6345, [email protected], open Monday to Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and through the noon hour by appointment only. The Veterans Service Officer is Brett Rix. The county's page says the office "was created by state statute to assist veterans and their dependents in times of need, or to file for all County, State or Federal benefits", and that the officer serves under the Veterans' Service Committee the Board of Commissioners appoints. What it lists. County benefits: the County Veterans' Aid Fund "To meet immediate emergency financial needs" (see that entry), flag holders "For placement on the grave of every veteran buried in Pierce County", and help completing and filing homestead exemptions. The County Benefits page adds DD-214 registration, after which the office provides a certified copy on request, and grave registration with a Presidential Memorial Certificate for the family of every deceased county veteran. The office also files for the State's aid fund, tuition waiver, discharge replacement, grave registration and Veterans' Home admission, and for federal compensation, pension, education, insurance, burial, home loans, health care and long-term nursing home care. The year. On February 2, 2026 the Board unanimously agreed that Mr. Rix send the county's two state senators, Robert Dover and Barry DeKay, a letter on the county's behalf opposing LB1072, which would let the State take $5 million from the Nebraska Veterans' Aid Fund. On May 26, 2026 it accepted Wragge Construction's $15,940.61 bid to replace the concrete around the Veterans Monument at the courthouse. Homestead certification. The Assessor's homestead FAQ, under "How do I qualify as a Disabled Veteran or their Widow?", lists the exemptions for a veteran totally disabled by a non-service-connected illness or accident, each "(annual certification required)", and sends the veteran to the Veterans Service Office first for a physician's form and the office's certification. The application under section 77-3508 is annual, but 77-3508(1)(c) says the medical certification need not be repeated when the condition has not changed, though the assessor may ask for it again (see the Nebraska entries). The money. The office (0100-803 Vet. Service) spent $38,427.73 in 2023-2024 and $40,947.03 in 2024-2025, and the 2025-2026 budget adopts $43,365.00: the officer's $36,920.00, and $1,790.00 for grave markers and flags ($1,722.61 spent in 2024-2025). The officer is paid by the hour ($20.00 from July 2025, $20.60 from July 2026).
