Pennsylvania Disabled Veteran Hunting and Furtaker License
Free hunting and furtaker licenses at a 100% rating or unemployability, and $2.97 at 60% to 99%. The disability has to have been incurred during a war or armed conflict, and the license needs revalidating each year.
Also called: hunting license, furtaker, Game Commission, PGC, $2.97, 100 percent, 60 to 99 percent, disabled veteran.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission issues resident disabled veteran hunting and furtaker licenses at two price points.
At no charge: a resident veteran certified by VA at 100 percent physical disability, or receiving 100 percent or total compensation, which includes individual unemployability paid at the 100 percent rate. Loss of limb also qualifies at this level.
At $2.97: a resident veteran with a service-connected disability rating between 60 and 99 percent as certified by VA.
The qualifier that catches people is that the service-related disability has to have been incurred during a war or armed conflict. A disability incurred in peacetime service does not open either tier, however high the rating. That is a narrower rule than most states apply to a disabled veteran license and it is stated plainly in the Game Commission's eligibility criteria.
Both tiers are resident licenses, so a nonresident veteran does not qualify.
The free license is described as a lifetime license, but it still requires validation every year. A veteran who assumes a lifetime license needs nothing further will find themselves hunting without a valid license. Revalidate before each season.
Licenses are available online, at participating county treasurer offices, and at Game Commission offices. Certification from VA is the required documentation.
A veteran in either tier should also look at the fishing license entry, which runs on the same two-tier structure through a different agency and requires a separate application.

60% opens the reduced fee, 100% or unemployability the free license
A rating of 60 to 99 percent buys the license at $2.97. A rating of 100 percent, or compensation at the total rate including individual unemployability, makes it free. Below 60 percent neither tier is available.
The disability was incurred during a war or armed conflict
The Game Commission requires that the service-related disability was incurred during a war or armed conflict. A peacetime disability does not qualify at any rating, and the rating filter cannot test that.
