Nevada Free Recording of Honorable Discharges
Every county recorder must record a certificate of honorable discharge free of charge. A recorded DD-214 can become a public record, so read the county recorder's page before recording one.
Also called: DD-214, DD214, county recorder, discharge papers, NRS 419.020.
For: Veteran or service member.
Where it applies
Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

NRS 419.020 requires the county recorders to record every certificate of honorable discharge from the armed forces presented to them, "free of any charge therefor", and to certify the recording on it. The statute is a duty, not a courtesy.
Nevada recorders keep their records open to public inspection under NRS 247, so before recording a DD-214 ask the recorder whether it will be public; some redact the Social Security number but publish the rest. The county pages describe each recorder's practice.
