New Jersey Operation Recognition High School Diploma
A state-endorsed high school diploma, including after death, for an honorably discharged veteran of World War I, World War II, Korea or Vietnam who left a New Jersey high school to serve.
N.J.S.A. 18A:7C-4.1 has the Department of Education award a state-endorsed diploma to a veteran who attended a New Jersey high school, left before graduating to serve in the Armed Forces, and did not receive a diploma as a result.
The periods. World War I, April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918; World War II, September 16, 1940 to December 31, 1946; Korea, June 23, 1950 to January 31, 1955; and Vietnam, December 31, 1960 to May 7, 1975. Merchant Mariners and Coast Guard members who served in those periods count. The discharge must be honorable.
A veteran who later passed the GED still qualifies. The family of a veteran who has died may apply, and the diploma names the high school he or she attended; the department helps districts that want to hold a ceremony around Veterans Day. The Department of Veterans Affairs' guide describes it as a World War II program extended to Korea and Vietnam and leaves out World War I, which the statute has included since 2010.
