Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Where the money is. Nance County's filed 2025-2026 budget lists no veterans aid fund among its funds and no aid line in its general budget; its only veterans line is the Veteran's Service Office (0100-803), $20,945.00 a year, which is the contract with Hall County (see the Hall County office entry, which also serves Nance County), raised to $21,575 for 2026-2027. The county's Veterans Services page names Donald Shuda, toll-free (877) 558-0799, and prints no aid text. When Mr. Shuda reports to the Board each spring he gives what came into the county: on May 13, 2025, $1,648,000 through the VA to assist veterans "with rent, utilities, food, etc." and $8,843.31 from the Nebraska Veterans' Aid fund, the State's emergency fund, which is applied for through the same office. Who qualifies. Section 80-102 lets a county veterans service committee aid a veteran, a spouse, a surviving spouse or a minor child in need; since LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) the veteran need only have served, been discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions) or died in service, and lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county. Nance County keeps its own Veteran's Service Committee, appointed by the Board (May 27, 2025), but no county money for it to pay; ask the Hall County office, (308) 385-5065 or toll-free (877) 558-0799, about the State fund and any county help. See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion. The county's recognition. The Board declared Nance County a Green Light for Veterans county from November 4 to Veterans Day in 2025 (October 14, 2025) and 2026 (October 13, 2026), and its May 27, 2025 claims gave $500.00 to the Nance County Veteran's Memorial.
