Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

The office. The Morrill County Veterans Service Office is at 606 L Street (PO Box 536), Bridgeport, NE 69336, phone 308-262-0787 ("please call and make an appointment or leave a message"), fax 308-262-9984, [email protected], open Monday to Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through lunch and Friday 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or later, and the officer "also make[s] home visits if necessary during/after hours". The Veterans Service Officer is Timothy Marquez, with Shawn Weibert as administrative assistant (State directory, updated October 26, 2026). What the county lists. The page lists county veterans aid (see that entry); a bronze grave flag holder reflecting the veteran's wartime era; recording of the DD-214, after which "the Veteran may call us from any where in the world and we will provide them with a 'certified copy'"; the yearly VA letter naming the veterans and widows eligible for the homestead exemption, which the office gives the Assessor; help with the VA headstone application (form 40-1330) on a veteran's burial in the county, and a Presidential Memorial Certificate ordered for the family of every deceased county veteran; and the State's Military Honor plates ($40.00 message, $5.00 numeric, see the Nebraska entries). The board. The Commissioners do not appoint the officer: "His board does that", the Veterans' Service Board, whose president is Sheriff Milo Cardenas and whose minutes are placed on file with the Commissioners each month; Commissioner Josh Schmidt is the Board's member on it. The Veterans' Board runs a summer hamburger feed (August 13, 2025 on the courthouse lawn), and in 2026 a pancake feed at the American Legion on April 7, a Memorial Day hotdog feed at Veterans Park and a July 4 hamburger feed whose donations were to go to the veterans fund; a January 2026 veterans event drew 130 people. On November 10, 2025 Mr. Marquez presented the Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs' memorandum of understanding and his Veterans Day talks at the Bayard, Bridgeport and Gering schools and Skyview Nursing Home; in January 2026 the Board discussed moving him from hourly pay to a salary. The money. The office (0100-803) spent $66,267.10 in 2023-2024 and $74,536.95 in 2024-2025, and the 2025-2026 budget adopts $83,360.00: the officer's $50,960.00, $21,000.00 of clerical salaries and $1,500.00 for grave markers and flags.
