Morrill County Veterans Aid Fund

Morrill County’s section 80-102 Veterans Aid Fund holds about $13,650 with no levy and budgets $8,000 of aid, but it has paid only grave markers and flags since 2023 ($3,716.79 of markers and $957 of event coins in June 2026); its page still asks for wartime service and an honorable discharge, tests the 2024 amendment changed.

For: Veteran or service member, spouse, child, survivor.

What the page says. The Veterans Services page calls the CVA fund "a temporary emergency fund to assist Veterans, their spouses, and dependents when there is an unforeseen emergency and there are no other resources available", for food, shelter, clothing, funeral, medical, dental and surgical items; the applicant "must apply through the County Service Office in Morrill County" and "must demonstrate an 'inability'" to pay. The test it prints is out of date. The page limits the fund to veterans who "served on active duty, received an Honorable Discharge, and served during one of the defined 'wartime eras'". LB1300 (Laws 2024, section 45) struck the wartime-service test from section 80-102, which now reaches a veteran discharged honorable or general (under honorable conditions), or who died in service, who has lived a year in Nebraska and six months in the county, and a spouse, surviving spouse or minor child in need. A peacetime veteran, or one with a general discharge, should apply anyway. What the fund holds and pays. Fund 1900, Veterans Aid Fund-Morrill Co, levies no tax: it held $14,530.20 on July 1, 2023 and $13,653.50 on July 1, 2025, having paid only grave markers and flags ($825.73 in 2023-2024, $50.97 in 2024-2025) and no aid. The 2025-2026 budget lays out $8,000.00 of aid lines (medical and hospital $4,000.00; emergency relief, provisions and clothing, rent and fuel, and personal supplies $1,000.00 each) and $5,653.50 for grave markers and flags. The only fund claims in the Board's minutes of January 2025 to October 2026 are on June 23, 2026: CenTec Cast Metal Products for grave markers, $3,716.79, and event coins, $957.00. The donations from the July 4, 2026 hamburger feed were to go to the veterans fund. How to apply. Through the Veterans Service Office, 308-262-0787 (see that entry). See the Nebraska entry on the county fund for the committee's discretion and the State's own aid fund.
