Where it applies

Written for the jurisdictions listed here.

Tennessee's disabled veteran property tax relief is a state payment toward the tax on the first $175,000 of a home's value; the Tennessee entry on it sets out the three routes and the rules. In Montgomery County the Trustee, Kimberly Wiggins, takes the applications. There is no county match: unlike Shelby County, Montgomery has not appropriated money of its own under 67-5-701(j). When and where. The Trustee says the application window for tax year 2026 opens November 1, 2026, and that the application and documents must be filed in the Trustee's office by April 5, 2027. Veterans Plaza, 350 Pageant Lane, Suite 101-B, Clarksville; (931) 648-5710; Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Bring a driver's licence or other state ID; eligibility is checked with VA through the F-16 consent form (F-16S for a surviving spouse). Property inside Clarksville also carries City taxes, which the City bills and takes its own application for. What the Trustee's page gets right. It lists all three routes for the veteran: paraplegia or paralysis of both legs and the lower body, loss or loss of use of two or more limbs, or legal blindness from a service-connected cause; one hundred percent permanent and total disability from being a prisoner of war; or a permanent and total service-connected rating. It sets no income limit. Where it narrows the law. For a surviving spouse the page describes only subsection (e), the spouse of a veteran who was eligible at death. It leaves out subsection (f), the spouse of a veteran whose death resulted from a service-connected, combat-related cause, who qualifies even if the veteran never held the relief, and subsection (g), the spouse of a service member who died while deployed away from home base in support of combat or peace operations. In a county built around Fort Campbell those two routes matter: a Gold Star spouse who owns and lives in the home and has not remarried should apply, whatever the Trustee's page lists.

Thresholds

Thresholds for Montgomery County Trustee: Disabled Veteran Property Tax Relief
GateRule
Permanent and total, as VA determines itThe state relief the Trustee administers. The rating route in 67-5-704(b)(3) asks for service-connected permanent and total disability as determined by VA, which a veteran paid at the total rate through unemployability that VA has found permanent also holds. It is recorded rather than enforced because the paraplegia, blindness and loss-of-limbs route and the prisoner of war route need no rating at all.
Or a named loss, at any ratingParaplegia or permanent paralysis of both legs and the lower body, legal blindness, or loss or loss of use of two or more limbs from a service-connected cause qualifies whatever the combined rating, as does one hundred percent permanent total disability from having been a prisoner of war. The state entry on disabled veteran property tax relief sets out the routes.
Or the surviving spouse, by any of three routesSection 67-5-704(e), (f) and (g) reach the spouse of a veteran eligible at death, the spouse of a veteran whose death was service-connected and combat-related, and the spouse of a service member who died on deployment, if not remarried. The Trustee's page lists only the first.
